Great reading. Yeah, Joe's quite the guy. I used to see a lot of these type of guys meeting at the late Don Brown Record Shop in Santa Monica. For them, jazz ended in 1933 as well. And country ended in 1941 right before the recording ban. They sat around in the back room and played rare 1920's jazz and blues 78's and ate weird processed meat like Pimento Loaf right out of the wrapper... I got a kick out of listening to the music, but they would never let me back there with them. Thanks for the links!
