Everyone I hung out with in the 70s liked both Rush and Aerosmith.

They toured together. I think it's pre-Neil Peart.

Anyhoo, does Joey get back in or is this unforgivable?

I take your point, although I've always thought of Roger's roar in "Won't Get Fooled Again" as distinct from the strangled cat thing that Steven has going on. And, of course, Roger can no longer manage "the roar." I'm fairly sure it has been pre-recorded the last two or three times I have seen The Who.

Aerosmith was never the same after the Jimmy Crespo band broke up.

Sure. And Janis Joplin is dead. And Little Richard is eighty-seven. Not sure what any of this has to do with whether or not Steven Tyler "invented the rock 'n' roll scream." John Lennon and Paul McCartney had some pretty good rock 'n' roll screams, too, now that I think about it.

Of course Steven Tyler didn't. Is that a subject of debate at all?

"Steven and the boys" deserve absolutely nothing. They're an entertainment entity, and it's up to the potential audience to decide whether they like that product or not. They're allowed to give their opinions out loud too. No one is required to like them or say nice things about them.

He should sue them for being an overrated, past-their-best band who haven't made a decent tune in decades. I'm ready for your wrath :D

They are if they don't want to get kicked out of my car in the middle of the highway.

    ;)

(And that's not just for Aerosmith. I'm not going to sit there and listen to someone being negatively critical about stuff, bitching and moaning, etc.)

I loved Aerosmith and Rush...and The Beatles, and Elvis Costello. I guess I wasn’t rocking right.

Sadly, yes. I'm willing to concede that Steven Tyler invented the Steven Tyler-style rock 'n' roll scream. As Keith Moon said, "I'm the best Keith Moon-type drummer in the world!"

you are naming screams. i'd say Janis Joplin is the only person you mentioned who sings close to steven tyler. big difference between yelling and being able to sing an entire verse or song the style tyler is doing that was copied a million times by rock singers after that

The claim I'm responding to is that Steven Tyler invented the rock 'n' roll scream. Is that a hill you want to die on?

unless you say Janis Joplin did it and he copied it, which I think tyler says he saw her live and it influenced him, tyler invented the style of singing that axl rose, Stephen Pearcy, taime downe and dozens of others copied. same way there are dozens of singers like david coverdale, jack Russell, lenny wolf, the guy from the band Bonham who copied the Robert plant style of singing

We all know Ian Gillan invented the RnR scream. No one does it better.

Yeah, I think Janis Joplin got their first. And if anyone beat her to it, it's Little Richard.
