A member on here wanted a general discussion thread on John Larroquette, and so I decided to create one.
John Larroquette is an actor known for many movies and television shows along with theater including Night Court, Boston Legal, The Librarians, Stripes, and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. But he didn’t start out as an actor, and he did music at first.
The early years From Wikipedia: Larroquette was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of Berthalla Oramous (née Helmstetter), a department store clerk who mostly sold children's clothes, and John Edgar Larroquette Jr., who was in the United States Navy. His paternal grandfather, John Larroquette Sr., was born in France and emigrated to the United States in 1895.
Music career Larroquette grew up in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, near the French Quarter. He played clarinet and saxophone through childhood and into high school, where he and some friends organized a band they called The N.U.D.L.E.S (The New Universal Demonstration for Love, Ecstasy and Sound).
"The John Larroquette Show" is one of the best forgotten sitcoms in TV history, IMHO. How a show that funny and enjoyable fell off the face of the earth is beyond me. The John Larroquette Show - Wikipedia dan c
Agreed, truly a great show. I laughed out loud so many times. Remember the one where he's dating the performance artist, played by (I think) Ann Magnuson?
One of my favorites. Aside from all of his great work I remember when he hosted Friday Night Videos with Little Richard, it was hilarious.
Always liked John Larroquette. Many have said it before how great he was as Dan Fielding on Night Court. Didn't he win some Emmys for the role? I enjoyed the short lived John Larroquette Show. The one with the David Cassidy theme song set in the bus depot Wikipedia says he went to Nicholls High School (now Frederick Douglass) here. My mother in law is just a couple of years older than him. She was probably a senior there when he was a Freshman. Back in the mid-80s, the Times Picayune was adding a TV Guide type magazine to the paper called Focus Forum. Larroquette came back home to film a commercial advertising it. An older cousin of mine was the main actress in the commercial with him. She said he was a nice guy to work with. That's all. She never really elaborated. It was a short gig over 30+ years ago. New Orleans really is one of the biggest small cities in the country. Everybody knows somebody who knows somebody or went to school with somebody or their cousin.
Yep. As funny as Larroquette was, and as much as I enjoyed Night Court, there was like a 3 or 4 year stretch where he won the Emmy every year for best supporting actor in a comedy, which annoyed me since no one from Cheers could win cause they were giving it to Larroquette every year (although I think Woody Harrelson finally broke through and won one year).
I enjoyed him on 'Night Court'. They could have gone the easy route & kept his character shallow. Eventually he reveals his fear of loneliness.
