Definitely not this forum's users, but that doesn't mean you are far off base. Kraftwerk has had a massive influence on all those styles you mention.

First time heard about Kraftwerk in this forum. A couple years ago maybe.
Now is a second time. Wow, they must be popular.

Actually, Todd Rundgren came first with A Wizard, A True Star.

I think the premise is flawed, if the source of the original opinion, spent a good part of their lives being hammered by every mentor, authority figure and self-professed "scholar" with the broken-record that was "the Fab Four invented everything important". Such a person would welcome the rise of any left-field influence as a "ding-dong the witch is dead" paradigm shift...forgetting that every geezer cashing his check this Tuesday at the grocery, has no idea what he is talking about (go ahead, make a reference to Gramps about Left Shark/Right Shark, and let the informed and eloquent discourse commence).

This is pretty-much like some fashion magazine declaring that Maybelline nail polish Red #4250 is the most significant influence to foot fashion in the past century...while obliviously ignoring the open-toed shoe.

Technology is what's influential. People just end up associating that influence with Kraftwerk. The people who bring them up is what makes Kraftwerk seem influential.

The most profitable and most popular genre today is Modern Country. Thus making the Eagles more influential than the Beatles.

    Sad but true.

My feelings: With the Techno/Electro/Trance/Industrial movement, Kraftwerk is a key influence. (and to all modern electronic music) To that movement, the influence is comparable to the Beatles in rock and roll music. I love both groups, both groups are heavily influential. Respect both for that.

  14. I can see an argument for equivalent influence, but if you're going to argue for more influence then you need to marshal a lot more evidence. Or really, at least some evidence. Like, how is Kraftwerk as an influence on hip-hop beyond "Planet Rock"?

    1) do you have references for this claim?
    2) define influential
    3) what exactly is the purpose of this thread? To argue who is the second most influential band in history?

If music continues along its current trajectory,
I predict that the crown of "Most Influential'
will eventually be a toss-up between the Sugar Hill Gang,
Cher, and the guy who invented test tones.

Why does everything have to be this endless musical equivalent of "Could Superman beat up The Hulk?" I love both bands and don't see why one needs to trash one to praise the other.

I can't figure out if the thread is meant to ridicule Kraftwerk or The Beatles.

Here's an alternate theory. Fans of the band have a skewed perspective on their influence as well as people's familiarity with them.
