    Hi everyone:

I picked up a used Krell KAV-300r about 2 weeks ago and was wondering, if anyone else has experience with this one, what changes (if any) occur after using it for a while? The speakers I am using are the Spica TC-60 and some XLO cables.

I have about 200 hours on it, thinking that it might not be completely broken in. So far I'm not impressed. Actually I feel the midrange is a little thin and shrill, but the bass is exellent. It doesn't seem to fit so well with my system.

Anyone have any suggestions as to weather I might have a cable or a speaker incompatibility problem with this set-up?

    Thanks,
    Randy...

    Randy,

What's your systems digital front end and what are using for IC's and speaker cables?

    Dave,

Digital front end is a Sony CE-775 with a set of Audioquest Jade interconnects.

    Thanks,
    Randy...

Even sounds "harsh" with a Steve Hoffman mastered DCC gold CD?

Some people have reported that the 775 takes at least 100 hours to break in. Sound stage becomes wider, smoother, etc.

If that does not work, try different interconnects or cables. I suspect that *something* does not match! If you have a local knowledgeable dealer, they may be able to recommend cables, interconnects, etc. for the Krell.

I Know that the Krell is capable of fitting in with other components and playing some very good music - I had a friend who had the KAV-300r coupled with a Copland CD player and Sonus Faber Concerto speakers and it sounded excellent.

    All the best - Andrew

    Randy,

I am using a Krell 300i integrated amplifier, with AudioQuest Emerald interconnects and Kimber 4TC speaker cables, a Sony ES555 SACD/CD player, a Pioneer DV-38A DVD/DVD-A player, through a pair of 1976 Klipsch Cornwall speakers. I'm very pleased with the sound that I am getting with this configuration; and the more that I listen to the system, the better it sounds. It may be possible that you have the right components in place, and just need some time to get used to listening through the Krell. Prior to upgrading to the system listed above, I was very dependent on running an equalizer with my system, and would always try to compensate for badly mastered CDs using the equalizer. After reading this forum on a constant basis, I decided to do away with the equalizer and upgrade my entire system, which also made for a conversion period, in which my ears had to get used to hearing music without being able to tamper with it's sound. Fortunately, my ears have adjusted accordingly, and I now really appreciate the "best version of CD" wisdom the I learn through this forum. I can now certainly tell the difference between different masterings or remasterings of CDs. Give the Krell a chance; I think that you will like it in the right configuration.
