I take plastic off of almost all of my records with just a few exceptions for specific reasons (fragile album covers and such.). But I always recycle the shrink wrap. I prefer to be able to see the album spines and don't want excess plastic aging on my shelves for no reason.
I always leave it on unless it's a gatefold. Why remove it? I have never in my 30+ years of collecting, run into the so called -shrinking shrink wrap that could warp a record. I have bought albums from all decades, with no issues of the shrinkwrap warping the LP... bending the corners? Maybe, but I don't know how it was stored... Those thick US 60s / 70s pressings aren't going to have that problem at all. I just stumbled upon NOS of Herman's Hermits LPs sealed from the 1960s, bought one for $3... good as new. I think it's overhype...
Funny… I’m completely opposite. I happily pay a premium for records with shrink, and all my eBay search filters include “hype sticker” and “price sticker” etc.
I'll soon be starting a thread over in Off Topic ...Which end do you peel a banana from?...Most people peel their bananas from the stem down, but the correct way to peel a banana is actually from the bottom up.
