    hey friends

I just bought a Marantz 1250 and it seems to be a problem with the left channel that sounds less alive without a sharp high frequency like at the right side. I tried to switch between them and play phono and it was still the same. maybe someone knows what can it be?

    thank you!

Welcome. If you can, repost in the hardware forum. They should have a good opinion as to what is going on. Or, shortly a moderator will probably move your thread for you. Hope you get the problem figured out.

Polarity is the easiest fix: make sure the "+" of the amp goes to the "+" of the speaker and the same with the "-".
Next, check the speaker cable -- switch the cables and see if there is a difference.
If the problem is still there, shift to a non-phono line input (CD? DAC? Streamer?) and check the channel. If that solve the problem you'll have to look at your phono stage.
If still there, you'll have to consider a variety of internal electronic possibilities and the gurus on this site will help.
    Good Luck.

  9. Vintage amps can be troublesome in that respect. You should look at making sure your dc offset is good(search threads here and over on Audio Karma) as well as other likely and common factors such as old transistors/transistor rot and worn or corroded speaker relays.

How about with a different amp? Same problem?
    - Your left speaker could be bad and you just never noticed until listening more intently with the "new" amp
    - Likewise the left side of your room could be more dead
