It would be nice to see a compilation of outtakes and/or alternate mixes of his stuff come out; I mean, his first solo LP came out 47 years ago, you'd think there'd be enough stuff lying around, right? The only things I recall that've come out are that acetate-sounding version of "White Summer" tacked on to "Ashes, The Rain & I" on The Best of The James Gang and the B-side version of "All Night Laundry Mat Blues" that runs the song backwards after you hear the song normally.
He had a hard time dealing with the death of his daughter. Everyone has their own ways of dealing with death.
I think it was the other way round. According to a recent Stevie interview although he was the love of her life their drug abuse was killing them. She had to get away.
More of that aired on DKRC (TV show back then that showed live music). It is out there for fan consumption. Still more must have been recorded that evening though but I have yet to see that surface. A cool writeup about it is here: Joe Walsh & Friends’ Magical 1975 Show
IIRC, in the biography of her that came out last year she said he basically told her ok, turn your pretty head and walk away....and she did.
I think it's the B-side of "Turn To Stone" that features ANLMB----I looked at it and thought "why is this song two minutes long, it's half that length on the album?" Played it and after the song ends it suddenly starts again, played backwards to the beginning. Leave it to Joe! When I bought "Best of the James Gang" it was the same kind of thing, why was the run time of "Ashes The Rain & I" a couple minutes longer than the original? Played it and a couple of seconds after the song ended there was a scratchy-sounding version of the Yardbirds instrumental that ran for a couple of minutes played by Joe only.
Pardon me if this was brought up before - I did not read all 22 pages of posts. Is "Barnstorm" an album name or a group? Wikipedia has it listed as a group. I always thought of it as Joe's solo work post James Gang. BTW: Joe is a local for me - he's from Northeast Ohio. I've been hearing his music on the local radio since the Yer Album days ("I Don't Have the Time" got major airplay here despite Wikipedia making it out to be a B side to "Funk 48" which bubbled under nationally at 128).
Same here. I believe that followup album The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get is also considered a Barnstorm (band) release, same core unit of Joe, Kenny Passarelli (bass), and Joe Vitale (drums+more). I just consider them Joe's first solo albums though.
I totally forgot that Joe was on SCTV's The Fishin' Musician!! Them were the days!! They're playin' live and they sound great.
