The seventies is mine. Honestly, so many films that I adore came out in this decade. I tried to list the ones that had the biggest impact on me.

    in no order:

    Jaws
I saw it three times in its opening week. As much as I loved Duel, I didn’t expect the impact this film had on me.

    Star Wars
Well, duh! The opening scene alone of the spaceship flying over head still gives me chills. Easily the most times I went back to see a movie in the theater.

    Young Frankenstein
The hardest I ever laughed during a movie. The blind segment is the funniest scene I’ve ever watched.

    Superman
One of the greatest comic book movies ever made. Perfectly directed by Richard Donner. So epic and big with a soaring score. And the best actor as Superman.

    Alien
Genuinely frightening Sci-Fi movie. I was on a school field trip and snuck out and saw it on Broadway in its opening weekend at 6 am. I think it was the first flick to be shown 24 hours a day. I still remember the person behind me jumping up in their seat from the first face hugger attack.

Believe me, there are plenty more movies I could put in my list and it would be different any other day. That’s why the seventies is my favorite decade!

What’s yours favorite decade and current top 5 movies from it? Do your best to list just 5. Try to avoid listing more than 5 or adding honorable mentions. That’s part of the fun and challenge.

I was 9 when STAR WARS was released. My mom dropped me off at the theatre with some friends, we got our tickets, sat down, and ended up sitting through two showings. No ushers came to check on patrons, so after the first showing, we sat there and waited for it to come on again. The opening scene with the spaceship filling up the screen, the lightsaber battles, and the cantina scene were all a real mind-blower for everyone in the theatre!

I was 10 when it came out and remember going to a late night screening with my parents and best friend. The theater was crowded and we ended up having to sit in one of the first few rows so we practically had to watch the movie with our heads tilted back! That and Superman the next year still rank in my top movies list. Great time to be a kid!
