First listen to CD 30 from "Baroque Masterpieces" on Sony. Handel - Organ Concertos Op. 4 performed by Collegium Aureum featuring Rudolf Ewerhart (organ)
iTunes, Karl Richter: A Universal Musician, tracks 6-6 through 6-13. It’s not hi-res, but neither are my ears.
This is probably a relatively old recording. Below are my Handel Organ Concertos CD singles. Organ Concertos Brandenburg Consort/Goodman Hyperion Organ Concertos Amst. Karl Richter - The Universal Musician:Many first-time international releases on CD , including Handel and Bach solo harpsichord music, CPE Bach Symphonies, Schütz Musikalische Exequien, Haydn Symphonies, Mozart, Brahms and Liszt organ works. $9.90 for CD quality, cheaper than iTunes.
OK, this is embarrassing to admit, but I just discovered that I already own the LP! I guess I need to browse my collection more often. (And to think I nearly ordered a copy of it on LP from Discogs about an hour ago!!)
I am celebrating this evening because my Seiji Ozawa-Complete Deutsche Grammophon Recordings box set arrived today. I'm very pleased that all 50 CDs arrived in the box in perfect shape.
Listening to "Elgar - Violin Concerto / Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending" performed by Hilary Hahn and the London Symphony Orchestra led by Colin Davis on DG.
I've got at least 20 albums lying around the house that have accumulated over the years due to my not keeping track of what I already owned.
Regular CD. Speaking of Elgar, I don't know why I bother trying. Meander, meander, meander. I've commented on him before. He can't sustain a musical thought for more than a few bars, then he doesn't know how to continue and tries something completely different. For me (probably not for you), he is unmusical and lost.
Finally took delivery of the Hogwood Mozart set after finding a copy at a decent price. It's a little more "well loved" than I typically like, but for the price, I'll deal. Another "start at the deep end" exploration awaits. Presently spinning the first disc.
Right now I'm re-listening to the second work on the CD, "The Lark Ascending." Beautiful music to my ears.
Haha I would have a lot of respect for Elgar if he actually did something completely different every 10 seconds. To me it sounds rather similar from moment to moment but yes the phrase structure is not of a type that the ear can intuit, hence the meandering or wandering feeling. His music does have a certain warm glow which sustains it somewhat. I do enjoy the Introduction and Allegro for Strings though. It is very difficult to maintain musical thought beyond 5 or 6 minutes in a non repetitive way, which accounts for the small number of composers able to write even moderately compelling symphonies, concertos and operas as opposed to songs.
