Ferrier's last recording. This is a ten inch LP and there is another from the same recording sessions of Handel arias. Sir Adrian and orchestra rerecorded their parts to allow a stereo version to be released in 1960, I believe.

I can second that. Virtually all of the BASF/Harmonia Mundi recordings I have are excellent.

Spinning now. Apparently it's the world premiere recording of the authorised Critical Edition of the Vivaldi Foundation. Performance by Federico Guglielmo and L'Arte dell'Arco - and very nice it is too!

I have some BASF cassette tapes and made some recordings back in the late 80's or early 90's. A few years ago, I popped one into one of my Naks and it almost ruined my deck as lots of flakes shed from the tape ended up on the bottom of my cassette well ...

Maxell and TDK cassette tapes never do this ...

I don't hate Rattle but generally avoid him. Barenboim is the one I do not like ...

I have seen Federico Guglielmo on other labels. Is this CD licensed from other record company?

I might be remembering this wrong, but wasn't there some big controversy with Biggs and these recordings because he insisted the antique organs be modified or retuned in a way that damaged their history? Not sure if that's correct. I'm pretty sure my dad had this LP in his collection, but I don't think I do anymore.

Biggs was a pioneer in the performance of historical organs.
In 1959, the year of Handel's two-hundredth anniversary of his death, Columbia and Biggs decided to record the Handel concertos and Biggs was searching for a historical organ. The most appropriate candidate was the organ at the church of Great Packington in Warwickshire. However, there were serious issues with this instrument, especially using it with an orchestra, because its pitch was lower than the standard orchestra pitch.

THE ORGANS USED BY GEORGE FREDERICK HANDEL by Dominic Gwynn - Goetze & Gwynn

So, long story short, they decided to raise the pitch of the organ to modern standards, fitting the pipes with tuning sliders which could lengthen the pipes back to their original pitch, if desired.
Biggs himself wrote about the controversy in an article in "The Diapason". The title of the article was "Organ designed by Handel Stirs a Teapot Tempest".

Different cover version of my Canadian (I think) print run. The Handel is a New Zealand cover print.
