Haven't heard this in a while:

    Yuja Wang, piano
    Sonatas & Etudes
    Chopin:
Piano Sonata no. 2, op. 35
    Ligeti
    Etude 4: Fanfares
    Scriabin
Piano Sonata no. 2, op, 19
    Ligeti
    Etude 10: The Sorcerer's Apprentice
    Liszt
    Piano Sonata in B minor S 178

Wang's first record, made when Wang was 21, shows tons of technique and some serious artistic judgement. Now 34, she has become an international superstar.

Love to compare the Liszt Sonata above with the Wang version in my post.

I couldn't remember where or who to find it again, but someone slammed Antonio Vivaldi recently, and I have taken some umbrage... while I don't listen to his Four Seasons usually, as I've found his other work to be less familiar, and more engaging for that reason, this DDD Supraphon release is an unexpected treasure from what I thought would be a budget 'best of'!

Vivaldi – Best Of Vivaldi (2008, CD)

I don't consider myself a real judge of of piano technique, but it seems to me Freire has plenty.

Love Vivaldi. The Brilliant Classics box is also excellent.

On the turntable: $1 at the thrift store today. I'm afraid I'm addicted to thrift stores--although trying to be more selective.

Enjoying this after dinner accompanied by a glass of the first wine I made from our little backyard vineyard--2004 Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc.

Domenico Scarlatti - András Schiff – 12 Sonatas

That looks interesting - I wonder how it compares to the similar period instrument offering from Bart van Oort on Brilliant?

THE ART OF THE NOCTURNE IN THE 19TH CENTURY - Classics Today

I keep meaning to give that a sample listen, the Field in particular interests me.

2004 was not ideal in the North Coast, given a serious heat wave in March and again in August, which pushed the vines into an early vintage. Still, some very good wine was made that year.

I've been exploring the early Verdi operas lately. Gardelli recorded many of them for Philips. Plenty of great music with Carreras and co. in great voice.
