This image that I posted earlier is, I believe, Louis at his home during his last year. I am making that guess on the basis of the vinyl couch protectors. Louis' wife was one of many in that era that believed in such uses of vinyl. His wife was into glitz! Louis lived close to Shea Stadium (the Mets cap). It looks like he owned Marantz. Louis after they added the front addition (close to street) but before his wife decided on brick for the facade and after the bricks. The house was the only one Louis ever owned. He asked his wife to pick a house after she said she was tired of living in hotels. It was originally a wood-framed house.
Louis really enjoyed making photo collages on his walls and ceilings in his private study/music room. His wife did not like them.
NP Bill Frisell - Good Dog Happy Man. (Nonesuch) Listened to this while running errands. It's not very jazzy but it's one of my favorite albums by Bill. His collaboration with Ry Cooder on Shenandoah is sublime.

The Mellophone and Mellophonium are odd instruments. I think the Stan Kenton instrument is now know generally as a (Conn) Mellophonium as it had a different bell forward shape than the old Mellophone from 100 years ago pitched in Eb or F. The British have a different style Mellophone with a more rectangular trumpet or flugelhorn configuration (eg Selmer and Olds). The British Mellophone works better in marching bands and has a more stable pitch. The modern mellophones are fitted with a trumpet mouthpiece but the mellophone I think is more similar to a Fluegelhorn in bore. So probably it should have a larger flugelhorn style mouthpiece for correct tonality since the Mellophone would be an Alto version.
