Crucial early Dave Brubeck Quartet > The Jazz Beat
Johnny Hodges: The Sessions 1951-55 #3
Miles at his supremely accomplished best, liked it very much, particularly Iris and Mood.
Must have lucked out and got a good rendition of this recording as Miles trumpet was uncannily truthful.
In case you're wondering, the best digital edition of E.S.P. is the original Japanese CD 35DP 69 from 1983.
Listened to last Saturday night on my cd car player,
Great solos by Lew Soloff (impeccable as usual), Gary Valente, Andy Sheppard, Wolfgang Puschnig.
Honorable mention for Alexander Balanescu on violin, main soloist on Birds Of Paradise.
Intriguing rendition of Mingus' theme Goodbye Pork Pie Hat.
Thanks, I was wondering just that.
I have not listened to this in a long time and I cannot say this is one of my favorite Miles.

Return To Forever - Return To Forever (ECM PROZ-1088)
Reminds me of a trip to Matosinhos several years ago
Since it seems to be a Miles day I'm going to give this a spin on Tidal, for now.
I don’t have the Artisan lp but I can comment how amazed I am with the covers for the regular series. Print quality the best of any reissue I have.
Dizzy Gillespie - The Cool World (Verve 1768672)
Some great albums in the lasts days..
NP Tomasz Stanko - From The Green Hill (ECM)
Interesting instrumentation (violin and bandoneon) plus bari sax, bass clarinet, bass, drums and of course trumpet.
NP Sonny Rollins - Tenor Madness (Prestige) OJC CD
Glad you got to enjoy Yoshi's regularly
I tried returning to there in December last year, but the shows were sold out that weekend.
NP: Andrew Hill - Spiral (Arista Freedom vinyl)
Relatively straight ahead for the Freedom label. No complaints though.
Really strong players:
Alto Saxophone – Lee Konitz (tracks: A4), Robin Kenyatta (tracks: A1, B1, B3)
Bass – Cecil McBee (tracks: A2, A3, B2), Stafford James (tracks: A1, B1, B3)
Drums – Art Lewis (tracks: A2, A3, B2), Barry Altschul (tracks: A1, B1, B3)
Soprano Saxophone, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone – Lee Konitz (tracks: A2, A3, B2)
Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Piccolo Trumpet – Ted Curson (tracks: A2, A3, B2)
Great Tal Farlow on this one
Verve [Japan 1976] MV 2559 - Artie Shaw and his Gramercy Five "I Can't Get Started" - rec. 1953
A nice big band from the 1980s
Mark Records MJS 57597 - Doug Sertl's Jazz Menagerie feat. Nick Brignola - rec. 1981 - Engineer: Mark Mayfield
Elvin Jones And Richard Davis Heavy Sounds (Impulse 1967)
WP: Kārlis Auziņš - Images in Regard of the Central Reference System [Bandcamp Flac download]
From 2016 with Kārlis Auziņš: sax; Artur Tuźnik: piano; Joel Illerhag: bass; Jacob Høyer: drums.
This album is so good. Highly recommended if you like intensely moody jazz combined with a hint of the avant-garde.
You can stream the whole thing for free at Bandcamp if you want to check it out before buying.
