While frogging around here a minute ago, I ran across this bit of info in another thread about a topic that might be of interest to some folks here, a coming book about the history of FMP: The links are from Heather Leigh and Peter Brotzmann. https://twitter.com/wishimage Log into Facebook
Graham Collier Sextet. Down another road. Another brilliant album by GC. Isn't this track, just outstanding jazz.
I have now moved on to The Alan Skidmore Quintet. Once Upon a Time. This is beautiful jazz that may not be too well known outside(or inside) the UK. Fans of this type of jazz should also check out Nat Birchall. We are talking very special music here of a quality that is rarely heard. Its so good.
Swinging into Wednesday. So glad I can be in front of the stereo! Count Basie Big Band "Farmers Market Barbecue" OJC Pablo cd
You do know it's Wednesday, right? I'm spinning Kenny Dorham LP from last year's RSD and drinking Peet's coffee while trying to warm up out here. Another brutal weather week.
Yes, I do. But I erred because it's Monday for me, sure feels like it. . .my wife had a four day weekend and I haven't been at the stereo much at all, I always get to return to it on Monday morning after a weekend. Thanks for the correction.
I've encountered this collaboration before. Note that the choreographer is named Bill Evans, but not the pianist Bill Evans. The pianist did collaborate with the choreographer, but did not to my knowledge do the choreography.
NP: Gene Ammons – Early Visions (1975, Vinyl) Maybe it's my ears but I swear that suddenly on Stuffy I'm hearing the tenor pan from left to right, on a 1948 recording; the LP does claim to be stereo, but I'm guessing that it didn't sound like that in '48. I didn't notice any such events on side A... I was already thinking that maybe it was time for some Tom Archia after this, and guess whose clip with Ammons is attached on the Ammons page for this release at Discogs... Gene Ammons - Early Visions
If I am not wrong, Skidmore also played with Alexis Korner, John Mayall, the golden age of the British Blues.
A VERY wide range of folks; Sandy Denny too - and Soft Machine as well. Alan Skidmore Alan Skidmore His site: Alan Skidmore SOS – SOS (2006, CD) Each link is different. NP: Ryo Kawasaki - Juice
NP Jimmy Giuffrw - Western Suite (Atlantic) red/green ‘Full Spectrum Stereo” My first Giuffre album many years ago. Instantly hooked.
