It might be, but the live version is what most of the world listens to now. I like both.

"Maybe I'm Amazed" by McCartney is the first one I immediatedly thought of. It is my all-time favorite Paul McCartney song and the emotion and passion is just off the charts on that "Wings Over America" version. And the vocal so much more affecting. The studio version, oddly enough, just doesn't even come close to it.

Likewise, I also feel You Gave Me The Answer, Magneto And Titanium Man, and Bluebird are much more "definitive" on Wings Over America. Then again, it's my all-time favorite Wings release. :)

Of course, definitive to me may very well not be definitive for listeners at large.

Things we said today. Heard the live version first, never warmed up to the studio version.

Queen has some: Bohemian rhapsody, Radio gaga, We are the champions etc

Crosseyed & Painless(with proper 90 Second Intro before transition into the FUNK)-Talking Heads. A lot of versions out there, but here is one of them. The Studio Album version from 'Remain in Light' is more bland-IMO.

A great live version for sure. Not definitive.

:unhunh: He manages to take a studio performance that is one of my favorite songs he ever recorded as a solo performer, and turn it into a song that I skip over every time it comes on anything that is playing the live version. I can't stand that live version.

I've heard the studio version on the radio a few times, but I have to agree with you on general airplay. Unfortunately the wrong one was released as a single, and the official single seems to become the de facto version too often for play, even though it is inferior. If they hadn't dropped the ball and actually released the original as a single when the album came out, I highly doubt most of this discussion would even be happening now.

Maybe I'm Amazed from his first LP, "McCartey" is by far the best (the live is OK..why do they always play it?). In fact the underappreciated "McCartney" is a gem all round. McCartney's live-in-studio feel, and almost innocent naiveté on all the instruments (and vocals, except the nicely done added Linda harmonies) is quite charming and enjoyable after the highly produced Beatles studio efforts (and slightly Spector-overproduced "Let It Be").

I'd call the "McCartney" Maybe I'm Amazed the best "live-feel" version...you know what I mean.

Certainly, there might be better Live Versions(mainly the original one from 'The Name of This Band is Talking Heads' original version I had on Cassette Tape as a kid, as the CD Reissue butchered the Intro Part), but I just wanted to point out how much better the Live Version of this song is over the Studio Version. I just did not want to spend a lot of time playing several Live Versions on YouTube to check out and compare.

Those Live 4 Songs are my most played Pink Floyd CD, since becoming a fan around 2003-2004 and it best represents all 5 Members of the Band-IMO. Wish 2 more songs(Live Embryo & Live Interstellar Overdrive) could have been added to make it 6 Live Songs.

That version of Layla is more properly referred to as the crap version

yes the live Cosseyed and Painless from this period is astounding... there’s no official live release of this though is there? In fact all the Remain tracks from this time live are incredible with Belew in the group

I was going to say Queen’s Spread Your Wings is so much better on Live Killers and for me is the definitive version, but I also so find I love the BBC session version from 1977 just as potent... both much better than the studio cut
