My sub is the SVS SB-2000, other components in my profile.

Budget for pair of floorstanders is around $1,000 US.

Been looking at a few, but not sure if I want 2ways, 2.5ways, 3ways, or 3.5ways.

    SVS Prime Tower 3.5way 87db
    Klipsch R-820F 2way two 8 inch woofers 97db

    MartinLogan Motion 20 90db $300 discount for $499 each
    TANNOY PLATINUM F6 87db 2.5way

I listen to hard rock heavy metal and classic rock.

    Too many things to consider.

It's best to try to listen to as many types as possible so that you know which brands and styles you prefer. Tannoy has always had solid products, so they should be a safe bet. I have never been a fan of the Klipsch house sound. I can't say how the SVS speakers would sound as I have only heard their subs. The ML Motion is quite a departure from what they have normally released, so I am not sure what to make of that. At first glance it would seem an attempt to make smaller, cheaper speakers as is the trend these days. That doesn't mean that they don't sound good, but they probably sound quite different from their ES designs, which I don't think are necessarily best for the types of music that you listed unless you never really crank things up.

I'm not looking at those; for some reason I am drawn away from them.

I have the Klipsch RP-280f speakers. Use them in a 2 channel system for music only, but I wouldn't have ANY hesitation using them in HT if I so desired. I listen mostly to classic rock and they sound great to me. They dig deep even without using a sub, but I imagine they would be even more impressive utilizing the sub you have. They are very efficient speakers and are within your budget. Just my two cents.....your mileage may vary.

Now looking at Bowers & Wilkins 603. Out if all brands I've listed in this thread, u believe B&W is the highest regarded. Please correct me if I'm mistaken. Thanks.

Maybe something from Polk’s now discontinued LSiM series? A quick search shows that there is still stock out there.

I'd really like to hear opinions on the B&W 603. Comparing comparable price point to the SVS Prime Pinnacle. TIA.

    And the reason is?

I have the RTiA9's and I moved on.

But, I moved on to the LSiM707's, while they were on sale.

    Couldn't be happier...

For Rock music, I thought the RTiA9's did an excellent job.

I did buy them during a Polk half price sale, getting the $1,500 pair for $750 (they are now $900/pr.).

I don't see how you are going to top that level performance for the same price?

It looks like, with what you have allocated for your speaker budget, will result in a more parallel move at best.

I think the RTi series checks off a lot of boxes.

BTW... For anyone interested, I think the CSiA6 Polk center channel speaker for $203.99, is about the best deal going on a quality center channel HT speaker.

Even though I did buy their flagship center channel speaker from the LSiM line, it was too tall to fit into my audio rack below the TV.

So I contined to use my center channel speaker from the RTi line.

I think it does an excellent job as a center channel and all of the speakers in the RTi product line have real wood veneer, which is something that is not usually found in this price range.

I have not heard them myself but if you like to play your music loud and with authority, you might look into the Emotiva towers.

    I have several Emotiva amplifiers.

Since Emotiva is known for their powerful amplifiers, I am given to imagine that their speakers are designed to kerp up with their amps.

They have been offering speakers now for several years and now long ebough to make improvements.

There is the pricing advantage of their Internet direct sales model.

Plus, they do offer a free trial period.

Their new Airmotiv T2+ are $1k for the pair.

Difficult if not impossible to physically listen to speakers without buying them during these times. Will most likely be forced to buy them based upon feedback from others and comparing specs.

  18. I'm also looking for a pr of floorstanders, but at a lower budget. The Q550s, you will likely need a sub. Have you looked at the back again Infinity R263s that reportedly go down to about 40Hz and have some good reviews? I have a pair of R162s in another room and they are great for rock.

True, I have read some reviews on them and they seem like something that I would purchase, if I were in the market.

There are many nice sounding speakers on the market.

While some do require a lot of piwer to drive, most speakers, I find do not really play to higher SPL's with authority.

I'm betting that these do. I am very impressed with the specs.

Also, as I mentioned, Emotiva is a company that does make powerful amplifiers. As such, it would not behoove them to sell a speaker that would not do justice with their amps.

Emotiva has a great reputation for delivering an excellent bang for the buck.

    Check out the reviews...

  24. Yes, if you sign up for the Harman newsletter, you may get an email with some discount codes in them on top. However, my codes didn't work with Paypal, so I chatted with them, and not sure of that status. We'll see. If this falls through for any reason, I will probably take a look at the Polk line that goes down to 35 or 40Hz.
