I have an original Elektra, but would be very interested in this. I wish MFSL would do their first album as well.

Since they've also done Da Capo, I wonder if they're slowly rolling these out and will release Love's other titles eventually. Would be great to see them do the catalogue.

True, but his re-master is soooo good I cannot go back to the original. I will try the MFSL though because this is a desert island disc for me.

I'm looking forward to this. One of my favorite albums. I wish the original mix had the dynamics of the Paul Rothchild quad version but that's the way it goes. Is that extra song that they booted off the album going to be on this as well to complete it? I hope so. Heck, what's it called? The Wonder People?

Music Direct lists only the original eleven tracks. Nevertheless, if this is like the Pet Sounds SACD, it should be something.

Why would it be like PET SOUNDS? That was a modern remix. This isn't. Or is it? Which version are they using? Has to be the original, of course. Looking forward to it. Can't wait, actually.

Has the quad mix ever been officially released in today's digital era?

Hope it's better than the HDTracks version. They seriously screwed up the EQ; it has a horrible boosted muddy bass. Don't think we have to worry where Mofi is concerned though.

I still think the 2001 Elektra CD is best. Sounds like a stereo remix - lots of clarity and punch, less tape distortion and mud. Wish Mofi would use that as source instead of the original master, although I know they'd never use a PCM remix/remaster over an original analogue source, no matter how flawed the original.

Is Steve's CD #2 from the Deluxe issue then a stereo version of Paul Rothschild's quad remix? I recall reading that the mix he worked with stemmed from the '70's.

An SACD of this. Great. I never tire of listening to this album.
Every song is great and sounds fresh. My favourite is "Maybe The People Would Be The Times Or Between Clark And Hilldale ".

I'm still holding out for an Audio Fidelity SACD of Odessey & Oracle myself. Can Marshall make it happen?

After reading Steve's comments in post #9 regarding the dynamics of the Paul Rothschild quad mix I tried playing Steve's mastering of the alternate mix through Dolby pro logic II surround to see how/if it would decode convincingly and it does, really well in some cases e.g. "Old Man". Probably not how the quad mix would sound of course, but an interesting listen nonetheless.

Interesting, yes but will never replace the actual 1967 mix, later mix has too many missed cues, incoherent layering, sloppy levels, etc. Better dynamics though. Just a rough mix that was made to show the possibilities of releasing the album in Quad, I think. Never happened though.

Yes, agreed, the 1967 mix is so much better as a two channel stereo mix. Pity that the quad mix (if it ever got to a complete stage) wasn't released, another tantalising "what if" I suppose, like the rumoured quad "Sgt. Pepper...." mix.
