Do you like the LP version of this just as it is?
Or do you prefer the double EP without the extra songs?

    I like the LP

EP but I’ve played it once in like 20 years. Not my fave Beatles album.

I like the LP. It's more psychedelic than Sgt. Pepper even if it is half a compilation.

Is the question about the tracklist, or the physical media?

I seriously doubt many would want to flip four sides of two 7" discs to hear six songs, rather than just starting side one of the album.

Even in 1967 i think a single sided LP with the six songs would have been preferred to the awkward double EP.

LP. Having grown up with the CD with no context I always thought it was an album proper and one of the better ones.

How do you rank this album among Beatles discography?

I know that the EP is the original version, but I prefer the LP.

The tracks from the film flow better, imo, the way they're sequenced on the album and the extra songs on the b-side are all great and fit the movie tracks pretty well.

Doesn't even sound like it was compiled from previously released material although it was.

The German stereo and us mono alternate with rubber soul revolver and ahdn as my favorite album. Depending on the day

Well, you make a list, even a mental one, of all Beatles albums.

Then you discard the ones that you feel are obviously worse (if any.)

Then you discard the ones that you feel are obviously better (if any.)

Then, at last, you make the hard choices among what you have left.

That would give you a good ranking for MMT among Beatles discography.

Magical Mystery Tour is fine enough. But since it wasn’t a UK album, I rarely play it

The best way to hear Magical Mystery Tour is to play the DVD or Blu-ray. This is as was actually intended.

But one could be forgiven for skipping all the junk just to get to the next song.

I love the album. It’s a great CD to put on shuffle too.
I love how the 2009 remaster has a Capitol label on the disc.

Magical Mystery Tour maybe the only time Capitol Records got something right in the Beatles catalog! Side 2 — “the singles” — is amazing, perhaps the strongest side of songs among all their records.

I had the EP first, but remember buying the imported Apple LP from Rediffusion in Nottingham and loving it. Still have it by the way!

When you've been listening to something since you were 3 (the LP, that is), it hard not to think of it as is.

The movie is pretty bad. But the songs in it and around it on the Capitol (US) LP are great!
