No Very poor value, bought the SA7-S1 sold this obese player after 700 hour burn in. OTH the old CD94 modified still going well after 27 years sounds better than the SA7-S1. and as good as the expensive but excellent CD7 which according to a Marantz enthusiast for CD sounds better than the latest reference SA-10 although this spinner is excellent for Stereo only SACD. However as IMO mch SACD sound better I would not waste £6K on the SA-10 the latest reference player. AS for the very expensive PM-10 I am not into Class D, for me Class AB is best, more natural sound and no radiation from switch mode power supplies.

What a silly, ridiculous thing to say. Do you think they laughed out loud all the way to the bank when you bought your Marantz too?

Hmm, must be the first time I've ever come across someone who thinks Marantz Reference stuff is "poor value". I've met a lot of happy owners though, and the components I've heard have all been great.

If I was currently looking to upgrade my amp, the PM-14S1 would definitely be on the list. Or the PM-11S3, but sadly that's out of my price range.

They probably laughed when I bought the Obese SA7-S1 ( D& M accused me of killing off the SA7-S1 ) but not when I bought the CD94. different owners then Probably Philips. Here is a comment from Abe Collins a very experienced Audiophile

Re: Marantz PM-10 Class D amplifier : Another OEM module in a box me-too amp. just like the ones built by small garage shop audiophile manufacturer wannabe outfits. I'm disappointed that a highly respected brand like Marantz took the low road to higher margins and profitability on this one. Lower R&D investment ,lower cost of entry, lower cost of parts, quicker to market, with higher profits . Lazy.

Marantz Ref enthusiasts IMO are paying too much just for appearance .

Peculiar this....a while back we had droves of users stating that they would not purchase loudspeakers with enclosures "made in China"....yet amps made in China are the bee's knees?

  17. I wasn't one of those. The build quality of my Genesis speaker cabinets is sublime.
The Marantz Reference products are built in Japan.

Even the non- Reference series PM-8005 is built in Japan.

The stickers on the back of some Marantz units clearly state "Made in China".But why should that hold any sway: seems countless folk have nothing but good to say about the product in question.

  20. Yes, but NOT the Reference gear, which is what this thread is mostly about.

Point taken! I was not trying to be dismissive of Marantz..it just struck me as a tad ironic given the fuss made about speakers with Chinese components:)

No. I do not need a 200 wpc Class D amp. I quite like the Naim Supernait 2 also expensive but half price of the PM-10. Have you heard the PM-10 and if so ,what do think of it for £7K

My PM-10 is not broken in yet, but the sound quality is worth the price of admission already. Didn't have to pay near the sticker price, but would have based on my listening experience and preferences. To each their own.
