One of my favorite venues, a tiny little place in Natick, Mass, has Mark Farner doing an acoustic show in November.

    Got my tickets already!

Have any of you seen him do acoustic sets before? What can I expect?

Wow, I bought the tickets almost a year ago and the show is finally coming up! Really looking forward to this one tomorrow night.

The venue is one of my favorites. I got to see Marshall Crenshaw (twice), Rickie Lee Jones and Ronnie Spector there and all four shows were great. Perfect setting for an acoustic gig, and maybe a little storytelling.

I really enjoyed the show on Friday night.

His voice is amazingly intact and very powerful, and the set was varied and fun.

Loved hearing "Little Johnny Hooker." One of my favorite Grand Funk songs, but I never expected that one to show up. Nice surprise.

He played acoustic guitar and keyboards on two songs, and was accompanied by another guitarist and a bassist, who both contributed backup vocals. He did tell lots of stories and was very engaging, but the stories did lean to the political side a bit, not a problem for me, just mentioning it.

I think having a drummer or even a percussionist would have been helpful. Some of the songs could have used a little more fill especially when he was soloing on an acoustic guitar, but on the other hand he stayed true to the acoustic format.

I didn't stay around, but the house announcer mentioned he would be coming up to do meet and greets a few minutes after the show ended. There was a line forming and people had various items ready to be signed, so I'm assuming he'd be signing. Super-nice gesture.
