Is there any difference in sound between the longbox version and normal 2 cd version? (both MFSL).

I don't think so, but maybe someone here would know better! I have the original longbox version, and am very happy with, but am crossing my fingers for SACD:)

They are both labeled "Ultradisc", and I believe both versions were made in Japan. I always assumed they were the same. I have the slipcase version, and it sounds great!

So far as I know, ALL MFSL "The Wall" CDs originally came in a longbox. However, the inner CD slipcover was sealed in case vendors wanted to get rid of the longboxes. Regardless, all used the same mastering. (MFSL only had the rights to the title for 365 days.) All MFSL copies of "The Wall" are UDIs made in Japan. The title was never issued as a UDII.

It's the same mastering as far as I can tell. These discs go for incredibly high prices on Ebay, especially sealed copies.

They were all longboxed, with internal shrinkwrap and labeling for sale as a JB sized item if the store had already switched their displays.

If all the MFSL Wall cds were a longbox version, then if I buy a normal sized 2 cd one, aren't I missing out on any special leaflets or extras?

It doesn't seem quite right buying the normal sized cd packaging.

The longbox had a shortbox inside, along with the appropriate inserts and the CDs.

There is no elongated (and neato-extra Gerald Scarfe) art in the CD jewels themselves, just slicks for the front of the CD jewel. The artwork was in a 8 or a 10-fold booklet that was jewel-box length meant to sit along the two jewels in the paperboard slipcase.

The longbox just went around the lot.

    Another Brick in the Wall?

    I have three copies.
Never heard any of them before
Also have two different Japanese Obi copies of the CD and a vinyl version.
I have I never heard and of them either nor have I ever heard this album in it's entirety.
It's strictly a collectors thing for me.
    Peace
    Norm

If you buy a sealed shortbox you will get everything but the longbox cardboard. I threw my longbox away years ago and don't miss it a bit. HOWEVER, if you are buying the MFSL THE WALL today, you will be paying inflated collectors prices. So whether or not you get a longbox can make a huge difference in price. Sealed longboxes are usually over $100. Open shortboxes could sell for $40-$50 if you are patient.

Don't pay for the longbox if you aren't getting one.

If you want the discs for the collectibility rather than the sound, be sure you get a longbox.

Gezz, I remember seeing at least 40 (!) of these in the longbox at the BJs Wholesale Club in Hartford, CT for $19.99. My "collector" alert was going off big time, but the "wife override" was a bit stronger.

"You already have one, and they can't be that collectable if there are 40 of them here in this BJs....."

The bane of all collectors, finding good stuff when "the wife" is with you.

Well Jon, I hope your wife has learned a valuable lesson with this experience..."That's right honey, if we'd bought those Pink Floyd MFSL's you could have that new Mercedes or the vacation home in Hawaii or....";)

Mental note: never take the wife cd shopping with you...

Considering how some titles took a nosedive from UD I to UD II, that's probably a real good thing.
