Enjoy, and let's hope that more of the set shows up.

I think I read elsewhere that Lazy Me was also filmed; That may be it though; I believe Pennabaker only filmed 1 or 2 songs for most acts until the last day when he filmed most of it .

The 'Moby Grape Live' CD has only four songs from Monterey, and, although the introduction is there, Hey Grandma is omitted.
    1. "Introduction" - 1.16
    2. "Indifference" (Spence) - 3:07
    3. "Mr. Blues" (Bob Mosley) - 1:56
    4. "Sitting By The Window" (Lewis) - 2:53
    5. "Omaha" (Skip Spence) - 2:43

I've always suspected they played longer than 11 minutes.

Jerry Miller really is one of the great unsung guitarists (certainly for his era).

I know that Tommy's shtick was always to be a little befuddled and slow on the uptake. But you wouldn't think he was portraying his "character" on this occasion, and he's even more so than usual. One suspects that perhaps…

I say for any era. He absolutely does not get the credit he deserves when the great guitarists are discussed.

Only Skippy is seen singing on this clip, so I assume Don Stevenson must be providing the harmony, as there are two parts heard. Interesting. Was it they who sang on the studio recording?

The movie of Monterey Pop has some iconic performances in it but when you realize what performers were left on the cutting room floor you realize that the film could have been way better; I think Pennabaker wanted to make the festival seem more like a world music festival and less of a showcase for San Francisco acts than the event actually was.

Off topic, not to mention the ridiculous footage of Jefferson Airplane and Today, where Marty is singing lead, but the camera focuses on only Grace through the entire song. I guess Pennebaker thought Grace would be a bigger draw than Marty, but I read somewhere that Marty wasn't too pleased about it.

I think the Smothers Brothers were sort of at the epicenter of the 60s....they turned up at a lot of key events.

  25. and not all managers, artists and labels granted permission to be in the film..... just like Woodstock where several artists got screwed by not being in the original film and record.
