Wow! Now THAT deserves a Rhino contact for a replacement. That is not acceptable IMO. Probably damaged in transit but still . . .
I don't think that damage was incurred in transit--the set was shipped in a cardboard box, and that box was fine. There was some brown wrapping paper inside the cardboard box--a minimal amount of cushion I would say. Inside the cardboard box, the box set's right side edges were a a little bent, but otherwise it was intact--no sigh of being crushed. I suspect the damage occurred when the thing was being assembled (by machine probably). The CDs themselves are ok. I sent an email to customer service, we'll see what they have to say.
Have you ever heard Mike Nesmith sings this song? It’s pretty great actually. Of course I’m familiar with the Elvis Presley version and I’ve always thought Elvis could do it better, but that was at a time when Elvis seemed extremely distant and bored with recording. I am still actually surprised that Elvis’ version became a top 40 single at retail and radio.
Mine just popped up in Saddle Brook, NJ. I'm hoping it won't take another 5 days to cross the remaining 25 miles to Brooklyn (ETA is 11/30) but hey - at least it's in the pipeline and the pipeline's moving.
That's so funny, I just checked mine again, and it is also in Saddle Brook as of 7:41 pm. I'm in Central Jersey, so I'm thinking by Tuesday at the latest.
mine has been in riverside, ca since the 22nd. i wish they would update their website, i know it's still not there, it can't be. supposed to get it 11/30 chad
Not that it really matters to anyone else but my SDE arrived today (tonight actually). Looking forward to listening to it all.
Regarding 'You Just May be the One' ('Headquarters' version): I thought it was Tork on bass on that one? I've always heard (and read somewhere) that it was the one song in which they played it in their television series configuration, and that they breezed thru it pretty easily, since they had been playing it on their concert tours...
Regarding 'You Just May be the One' from 'Headquarters'-This isn't the only place I've read this, but here's what Wikipedia has to say about who played on it on 'Headquarters': "You Just May Be the One" Written by Michael Nesmith Lead vocal by Michael Nesmith Harmony vocals: Micky Dolenz Backing vocals: Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Peter Tork, Chip Douglas Electric 12-String Guitar: Michael Nesmith Acoustic Guitar: Michael Nesmith Bass: Peter Tork Drums: Micky Dolenz Tambourine: Davy Jones Engineered by: Hank Cicalo A remake by the band; the earlier version which featured session musicians including Glen Campbell was recorded during the sessions for the Monkees' debut album; this earlier version was used several times during Season One of the Monkees' television series. It was eventually featured on Missing Links Volume Two and also subsequent reissues of the first album. This is the only track on Headquarters to feature the four Monkees playing the same instruments they were shown to play on the television show. Recorded at RCA Victor Studio C, Hollywood, March 2, 1967, and March 16 (12:00 - 7:00 PM) Headquarters (The Monkees album) - Wikipedia
