Hope you get a great seat - I never realized Nez rarely performed in the beautiful city of Vancover. Especially given all his recent touring and Vancouver is relatively close to his stomping grounds.

Same over here. I figured Monkees touring was over by now in 2020 and we'd be lucky to get an occasional solo show here or there.

Yeah... I see what you mean. Not a trainwreck, no, but it could’ve used a little more work. The arrangement’s good, and it’s fun to watch Micky really getting into it. He’s having a blast, singing and playing a song he had nothing to do with 1969 but clearly enjoys. Maybe they’ll get this down for the upcoming tour.

I got tickets for the April 17 show in Dallas. This is going to be a family affair. The wife, our 10 year-old twins, 7 year-old daughter, and me.

Is that an official track listing for the M&M Live CD? Really was hoping for Good Clean Fun. Very happy about As We Go Along. Micky performs that so beautifully live.

Seriously bummed about no “Good Clean Fun” or “Porpoise Song” — and the two Davy songs are truly unnecessary in “The Mike & Micky Show” (I’d bet Nez left the stage for “A Little Bit Me”) — but otherwise this is a great track list.

Agree both Good Clean Fun and Porpoise Song should have been included. There's a couple tracks that could have been swapped out. Disappointing!

I didn’t realize “Little Bit Me” was ever in the setlist. Strange, given Mike’s feelings towards it. Like I said, I bet he took a break when that one was played. Including that one instead of GCF is unconscionable.

“Daydream Believer,” I can sort of see. Major hit, crowd wants to hear it, pay tribute to Davy with one (And only one) song. Fine. But even then, not sure it needs to be on the album. Would’ve much rather had “Porpoise Song.”

While I like this, I am not sure I ever expected the Monkees to turn into the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Anyone who owns their early records will know what I mean.

Think of it this way. In spite of Rhino wanting to market this as “The Monkees,” it’s not. It’s The Mike & Micky Show.

They threw in some solo Nez at times throughout the tour as (“Grand Ennui” for one, as Micky loves that song). I’d have rather had those than the Davy songs being included on the album too.

I was talking more about the sound of the band. Steel guitar, fiddle, banjo (yes I know Tork played too). The early NGDBand records are a combo of bubblegum, singer songwriter, goofy vaudeville and early country rock. I think the Monkees would have considered them kindred L.A. spirits, but I am not sure that I don't prefer the tacky live Jones led Monkees of the 80s and 90s.

  18. My mind was blown when I read this. I had NO IDEA the NGDB ever did anything other than country—when I was growing up (in the '80s), the only music my parents ever played in the car was country, and I remember "Fishing In the Dark," and just presumed that was representative of the NGDB's entire sound and catalog. I also had no idea they've been around since the '60s! I'm listening to their first album right now on Spotify, and I hear a couple of Monkees-like things, and also one or two things that remind me of the Hollies. I have learned something today!

I also wanted to say that for the Monkees, it wasn't just Pete's occasional banjo—they also had occasional pedal steel (as on "I'll Spend My Life With You"), and several of Mike's songs had a twang or other country-ish sound to them.

"Some of Shelly's Blues," written by Nez and first released by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on 1970's "Uncle Charlie and His Dog Teddy;" a No. 64 POP single for the NGDB

Some of Shelly's Blues from Nez's final RCA album, 1973's "Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash"

Some of Shelly's Blues by the Monkees, actually cut solo by Nez with no other Monkee involvement on May 29, 1968, during his Nashville sessions and finally issued on their 1990 compilation "Missing Links Volume Two"

Excitedly going to the Biloxi show (5th row seats). First time in the presence of Nez. Yes, most casino shows in the area have shortened sets.
Disappointed that it appears that the Biloxi show is the only show on the tour in which the album is not included with ticket purchase. Has there been an announcement of a vinyl release?

  21. Have fun! I'll also be seeing Nez for the first time (at the Riverside show in April).

Having a little fun....if you could add only 1 different vocal from Mike and only 1 from Micky to this tour...what would they be?

    It's tough, but I'm thinking:

    Mike: Don't Wait For Me
    Micky: Never Enough

I've been wanting to hear Michael do that tune too. Think it'd still fit his vocal range well.

I'll come up with a couple of my own:

    Michael: Writing Wrongs
    Micky: Shorty Blackwell

... yes, I went there Lol

Both with intros explaining the lyrics and musical arrangements

Any of those songs would be phenomenal in a live setting. I think for me:
Nez: Don't Call On Me or My Share of the Sidewalk
Micky: Admiral Mike (Although it's a Mike song, I don't know if there's a version with Nez on vocals. I'd be happy with either singing it)

I know they rehearsed Salesman before the 2018 tour so I've always wanted to hear the current band cooking through that.
