I just opened and played my new copy of the MOFI Cars "Heartbeat City" vinyl, and I noticed something different about the inner cardboard sleeve that shows other MOFI releases.

I notice that 4 Dire Strait albums on vinyl are listed, that I don't remember seeing before. I checked the usual sites, Music Direct - Acoustic Sounds - Elusive Disc - Mofi.com, and nothing is listed.

So I assume these new cardboard inner sleeve protectors that Mofi included in the Cars "Heartbeat City" LP are the first that this information might be available (if it was posted before I couldn't find it).

So here is what I see:

Dire Straits "Making Movies" - LMF468
Dire Straits "Love Over Gold" - LMF469
Dire Straits "Communique" - LMF 467
Dire Straits "Dire Straits" - LMF 466

Since Mofi has been really hitting it out of the park lately with their releases, I will be getting these (not that I need more copies of these albums).

I have to assume, at least from my experience with recent Mofi, these will be better than the SHM-SACDs I have and the latest Rhino vinyl releases (as well as the vinyl box set I purchased some time back).

We will have to wait and see how these stack up (assuming they are actually released).

That would be great. Brothers In Arms MOFI 45 rpm vinyl is the best that this album has ever sounded.

BTW, how is the Cars Hearbeat City MOFI vinyl?
I have a near mint original Canadian pressing and it sounds fantastic.
Have you compared the MOFI vinyl with an original vinyl?

    Thanks.

BIA on SHM-SACD is the best for my ears. The eq on the MFSL is weird.

The Rhinos are really good. I bought all those and the 45 rpm BIA because the Ricker cut left a bit to be desired. I happen to really enjoy the MoFi BIA BTW. I kind of assumed I was done at that point. For me to buy these again seems beyond ridiculous but let's see how they turn out before I say never again.

For Love Over Gold and S/T the more recent SHM discs would be the better discs for comparison IMO. I really like what Mofi did with BIA, Universal Japan used the shorter LP track lengths unfortunately.

Could they be 45 rpm? I can't see MFSL getting a licence otherwise while the Universal 33 rpm versions are still in print.

Also on SACD or only on LP?

The information on the Mofi insert suggests vinyl only at this point.

Don't have an original Heartbeat City vinyl, just the Mofi. I do have other digital versions, though.
I thought the Mofi vinyl great!

Agreed, they are likely to be 45s. Not sure what i think about that.
Brothers in Arms benefited from 2 discs because it's 55 minutes.
I prefer to keep albums to two sides if possible.

This is fantastic news! I only hope "On Every Street" gets added later and that of course this series also comes to SACD.
Truly exciting news...I have been praying for MOFI to tackle Elton John, Genesis or Dire Straits for years. Now lets just pray they are late 2016 early 2017 releases and not 3 years away...lol

What's worrying is that temptation will put me £100s out of pocket. These 45 rpms are now very expensive in the UK.

How do all these BIA versions sound compared to the original LP? I have an original pressing and love it, thought the CD extended versions of the songs went on too long. Sound quality is fantastic on my original LP but I have no other LP versions to compare to.

That is a difficult one especially if you are complaining about the full length Cd version. The MFSL 45 rpm IMO is way better than the original and to a lesser extent the Universal 33 rpm 2LP version. The later may be a matter of taste or equipment dependent. I think the 45 rpm is a clear winner and if I bought one new copy that would be it. Unfortunately I am compelled to buy every version that comes out :). The only one I've sold was the Simply Vinyl which to be fair sounded very good but was just bottom of the pile.

My wife will love that I have to buy another copy of something I already have :D but I really love this album and it sounds like I need to hear the 45rpm version. Does the 45rpm version have the extended versions of the songs or the shorter cuts?

I would possibly consider trying one, can't imagine unless they're 45rpm that they'll best the Grundman/Pallas/Warner/AAA cuts. That 2010 Communique cut is one of the best sounding records I've ever heard, constantly one of the first records I reach for when I want someone to hear how great vinyl can sound.

I'm in for all four, even though I have the latest BG's (and recently a couple UKs)
    33 would be ok...
    45 would better...
one step would be very cool...any chance?
