To me the most iconic is definitely different than your personal favourite picture. For instance that's a cool picture of Jimmy Page up thread at Earl's Court, but is that shot the image that comes to mind in the public consciousness when you think of Led Zeppelin? I'd think them standing by the Starship would be more widely recognized because of it's mass reproduction on posters.

I'm not a big Beatles fan, but to me that shot of Lennon in the NYC shirt is absolutely iconic, something that would be recognized by a great deal of people from all over the world. Might not be the best picture ever taken of him, but its the definition of iconic.

    Yes, that.

I think all the ones I've posted so far have been the most iconic photos of those artists (Freddie Mercury, Klaus Nomi, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix). The only one that isn't quite so much is the one of Bono, but I recall posters of it, and I've seen it quite a bit.

For Depeche Mode, I think the most iconic probably is the cover photo shared between their Singles '81-'85 and Catching Up With compilations:

You can post photos of Hendrix on Pinterest or whatever. Why would this forum be different? That's odd.
