So, I'm watching the Mr. Bean DVD set that just came out. It has all the episodes on 3 DVDs. I put in my favorite episode... Do It Yourself Mr. Bean... and I notice some missing parts. So I pop in my video tapes and sure enough, there's some extra stuff there. There are at least two different spots in this episode alone that have been cut out (one lasts more than three minutes).

Just letting you guys know. This kind of stuff really cheeses me off. I'd like to write them a letter full of rude remarks and bad spelling. A&E should be strung up by their go-betweens for doing things like this. Let me at 'em. I'll set the demon scurvy on their bones!! They'll rue the day the messed with Yesman!!:realmad: :realmad: :realmad:

Which parts exactly are missing? I'd like to take a look at the European DVDs and see whether the edits are there. The episodes are rather short to begin with.

If it is censorship, they may have removed the episode where Bean goes prospecting inside the turkey looking for his watch. Highly suggestive;)

From discussion threads at HT Forum and DVD Talk, it does not look like a censorship issue - more like an inconsistency between different versions of the same episodes, depending on whether they were meant to be broadcast with or without commercials.

Obviously, the DVDs should have had all the Bean, and as much Bean as possible. That is a shame:(

:( Sheesh. Always, it's gotta be someone messing around at pre-production. Why... WHY?? :(

According to the Rowan's production company, these are the "authorized" (Rowan's nod) edits of the full programs. These digital tranfers were done in '96, etc. Some of the missing bits may have been used as time-padding for exports of the show...

The part I noticed that wasn't there was in the episode where he buys that recliner at the Harrods-type store ... There's a whole scene missing in which he terrorizes an elderly couple who are interested in buying the same chair.

I'm pretty cheesed off too, since I bought the set on the day of release, before I had the chance to check out any complaints that were circulating. I would not have bought the set if I'd known about the missing stuff ... I'd have kept my VHS copies (which, sadly, I've already sold off).

They should compile a bonus DVD with all the missing scenes and make that available for all who bought the DVD's! If we saw it one way and they release it another...no matter what, we all feel slighted...reguardless of what's considered to be officially approved!

Mr. Bean was originally broadcast on commercial TV (not the Beeb) in England.

Allegedly, the DVD versions match the original british broadcasts, and the padding was added for commercial-free cable broadcasts later on.

That's the scene I noticed too.

BTW, I kept my VHS tapes. Maybe I'll compile a complete version on my computer someday.

So they should've made a separate Mr. Bean "American" version box set! Not fair at all! Geez...

I taped my Bean episodes from PBS and they have Mr Bean terrorizing the old lady and the famous turkey scene. Glad I haven't bought the DVD set.
    This sucks!

...and while they're at it, they can include at the American Beatles albums in there too!! :)

I'm not really bothered by this. It seems that they are using the true UK versions of the episodes. The additional (added-on) stuff would've been nice to have as a bonus but for me it's not the end of the world. I love the show. I was lucky to have seen Rowan Atkinson in his one man show on Broadway back in the mid-80's (which sadly flopped and was replaced by Jackie Mason's 'World According to Me'). He re-used some of his skits from the show for Bean...
