Interesting point...the Archives box is supposed to be 2 DVDs and 8 CDs, IIRC, so I don't think you'll get hi-rez on that.

Does it appear that way? I'm not really sure.

Why would they release these 2 things separate from the box set and then put them in the box set. It doesn't make any sense!

Plus this box is supposed to be in chronological order I think.

What volume # is Massey Hall supposed to be?

Then again, this is Neil Young we're talking about.

There are shots of the Massey hall, from the outside but also from the show that's in the trailer for the Archives. And from the Fillmore show too. We've talked about it in previous threads, there is a very big chance that on the 8CD's the archive will have, two of them will be of the "performance series". It's a shame, my impression is that Reprise wanted to test the market to see if the sales would be worth it.

    Double-dip, unfortunately.

This may not be a misprice. Here in Vancouver the CD/DVD is $16.99 ($16.96 at Amazon.ca) or approximately $14.52 USD. The CD is $2.00 less.

    No guilt, then. :righton:

I see it as the 2 lives sets plus the Archive box are all part of the Archive Series. I don';t think they would waste a 45 min Fillmore set as 1 disc as part of Archive box!

Yeah, I agree. I think to not have a 10 zillion cd box set Neil is augmenting it with extra releases.

Well - I'd give the artist some leeway and be less inclined
to call the whole thing flaky if he didn't number the first archival
    release as #2...

It's great to finally have a version of "Bag Fog Of Loneliness" on CD!!

The is an advert for the box in the Massey disc. No mention that the disc is included in the box. FWIW, my disc was badly scratched and the insert tore when I removed disc.

Can you post the link to this on amazon.ca? I've been into the site today and can't find the CD/DVD at any price and they even have a listing for just the CD for $29.99.

I've been in there and can't find. Cheapest I can find it in the stores here in Toronto is $39.99.

If you can't spend 15 dollars to get a fix now then you really shouldn't worry one way or the other. I am happy to take my chance...looking at the footage and hearing it in Hi-Rez format more than makes up for the possibilty of a repeat. It's not like I don't own all of the studio tracks that are going to be on the Archives box, in vinyl and CD form.

The CD alone is $13.97. Just search in music for "Live at Massey Hall" or try this:

The box is going to include alternate versions and released versions of his songs, in chronological order. If you put all of his studio cuts on these eight cds, you still have a lot of room for unreleased studio and live cuts, even the Archives performance series stuff.

I don't know these things as an absolute fact, but if anyone is going into this archives box thinking it is only going to cover just his unreleased stuff, they are going to be disappointed. I also think the box will come in two forms, one with 8 cds and 2 dvds and another with the same 8 cds in both regular CD and Hi Rez DVD format, plus the two video DVDs.

One of the reasons he has dragged his feet with the archives was the ability to deliver it in the best possible format for hi-rez listening. Judging by the Archives Performance Series Releases, I would say that is how the box will follow. Plus, the box may contain The Performance Series vol. one, with two slots for the 2 & 3 releases that we already have.

I don't mind how it comes out, just as long as it does. Those who might not like it to come out that way may have a valid reason to complain, I am just not one of them.

Thanks for the "heads up" about Best Buy.

I wasn't planning to pick this up today - but the possibility of
getting it cheap - was too enticing to ignore.

So after work I went in to my local Best Buy.

There was exactly one copy of the Massey Hall release.

"CD plus DVD" was the only copy they had - and it had
a sticker on it indicating $14.99

I took it up to the counter and the girl scanned the disc.

It came up at her register as "$22.99 - CD plus DVD edition"
but she said nothing to me and adjusted the price down to
    match the sticker.

I'm not really sure if they are having a first week sale - or
if this is a mistake - but I wasn't about to ask

My only complaint so far is the CD has strange index locations.

Long periods of talking (like the beginning of "Old Man") should
be hidden in the negative count-down area... putting them in
the regular part of the song is just sloppy.

That and it seemed odd that the CD text shows up as
Song_Title followed by a dash followed by "Neil Young"

In case - of course - we forget the artist - LOL

I havent had a chance to listen to the discs yet - I had
the DVD on tonight while I was cooking dinner - but my
13 year old made me keep the volume low - LOL
