I too wrote in my survey about maybe streaming a rare unreleased audio track once in a while. Even if it's a song we all know just an unheard live version of it. They're sitting on thousands of hours of live music no one will ever hear.
Weld now playing at the Hearse Theater. A fairly low resolution copy has been used, but overall it is a great document of the mighty Ragged Glory tour (and the weirdos in the audience). There are many awesome performances from this tour for those who want to dive into the audience tapes. As a bonus, you can enjoy them without the permanent hearing damage of actually being at the shows. As an electric lead guitarist, I don't think Neil has ever quite reached the same heights again.
If Mr Young is looking for cover art for a NYA release, perhaps he could use Joni Mitchell’s portrait as shown in this link Turbulent indigos: glorious Joni Mitchell watercolours – in pictures
Watching the 2nd half of Weld after work now. Obviously sounds great. These longer vids would be best to be streaming for at least a few days. I totally missed Rusted Garage due to work and family stuff.
Neil "promised" in a reply to a letter from me about Bright Sunny Day that "outtakes will be added in the near future". I wonder if the results of his questionnnaire are perhaps causing him to rethink his attitude to unreleased material, particularly as it is annual subscription renewal time soon.
I was wondering if it included the complete set list that was played at the Cow Palace that night. I'm pretty sure the original broadcast was of the complete show and it sounds like he hasn't cut anything for this video. I was at the Cow Palace that night and I remember an epic Cortez.
This looks as an expensive production, when the music biz was flourishing. Unused for other 33 years if not as broadcast. For the live unreleased Album Neil recorded at least 25 shows on multitracks with different recording facilities. Some tracks were used (overdubbed) for the studio Life and for the Westwood broadcasts. I like a lot Weld. This version (for DVD) is dated 2014.
I would imagine the biggest factor in "his attitude" is the deal he has with WMG—no way Warner Brothers is going to let him release platform exclusive music until he fulfills whatever his obligations are. Maybe we start to see that happen once Volumes 2 & 3 are out physically.
I guess that Bright Sunny Day should be right on Archives Vol.2. This is a very rare unreleased track.
Best quote from the Help Me Lose My Mind about Neil's singing: Reckless narration with pitch. A buddy of mine who used to hang out a lot in Lou Whitney's (The Skeletons) studio in Springfield, MO commented that comment really sounded like something he would have said. One time he told an artist during the mixing that he would fix the sound in distribution!
