For sure I'd go with After Midnight, Just One of Those Things and Love is the thing

I won't be able to afford any of these though..

The 3 albums arranged and conducted by Gordon Jenkins - Love Is The Thing, The Very Thought of You and Where Did Everyone Go? - may be of particular interest to you then. They are essentially "strings" only, as this was felt to best suit the concepts. Just One of Those Things is a direct opposite, deliberately using big band with essentially no "strings." After Midnight is a jazz combo-based work. St Louis Blues is band and orchestra. NKC Story varies being an overview, with the majority of cuts being vocal with orchestral accompaniment. Hope this helps and that you find some enjoyment in whatever you may choose.

If this is related to the hificritic.com reviewer who connects the dCS Paganini stack with Belden digital wire and then reviews it, I am not surprised... ;)

Well, beings nobody commented on this, I emailed Acoustic Sounds and asked, here's the response I got. :D

    Hi John,

We can't be sure at this point, but my guess is the vinyl will be released first, possibly by Dec 1st.
    Thanks,
    nate

News of this project is very exciting! In full disclosure I must admit I am simply too lazy to read this entire thread right now but intend to in the coming days.

In the meantime may I ask if it has been discussed how "The Very Thought Of You" & "Love Is The Thing" SACD versions may compare to the previous SH Gold CD versions? Has Steve made mention of it?

My understanding is there is only ONE plant in the entire world still pressing SACD...in Austria I believe. Therefore, when they will be able to get a slot in the manufacturing process is anybody's guess.

I'm not certain why there is two threads on these re-issues, but anyways I thought I would ask here (again) ...

Does anyone know if AP or any retailer is offering a 'deal' if you order all or a number of these discs and EPs?

Also, does anyone know what the release date will be?

Called AP on Thursday and the lovely Lisa said that it would not be before January 2010 so my estimate of March could turn out to be close after all.

There are two plants in europe that in this time manufacture SACD's, Sony DADC and Sonopress.

I was sitting in the KUMON lobby today (waiting for my six year old to do his Kumon work) and this big dude was sitting in there also waiting for his kid. He was reading Stereophile which was an unusual mag to be reading in a waiting room (guess he brought it in himself) and we started talking about what looked good in there. Another lady in the waiting room was leaving and she simply said to me: "Good bye, Steve!"

The guy put down the mag, looked at me and said: "Ah, I place you now. How's it coming with the Nat King Cole?"

Heh, I guess he recognized me. So weird to be cornered about a project in such an unlikely place, totally out of context. I told him that we were working on them feverishly for first quarter release.

It's true, we are. Even Michael Fremer is working on some notes for the vinyl versions.

Point of this bump, I should have some final track listings for you in a few days.

Forum members and Nat Cole experts Jordan Taylor and Chris Hall (Apileocole) are also working on notes for the projects.

Don't fret, Nat lovers! Should be well worth the wait.

  17. To be perfectly honest I am happy there has been a little delay: It means I will have time to save some money up to buy them :righton:

    Same here :agree:

With the Holidays coming and being temporarily jobless this delay is actually a good thing (I can't believe I'm saying this;))

Yes, I understand. Money is tight right now.

These would have made great stocking stuffers though (the digital versions; the vinyl wouldn't fit)..

Saw the ad for the NKC releases in the latest Acoustic Sounds catalogue. Love the album covers- the Capitol art dept sure put out some classy packages back in the day.

This is pretty much the final track listing. Could change a tiny bit but I doubt it at this point.

Those tracks where there is no three channel DSD - will you be including the two channel (or mono) tracks on the multichannel programme?

My player defaults to multichannel, and it is quite a pain getting at the stereo DSD programme.

I know very little about Nat King Cole, but the original mono Walking My Baby Back Home doesn't appear to be on any of these discs - I think the Story version is a stereo re-recording?

  24. apileocole

    apileocole Lush Life Gort

Yes, 1961 version, stereo only. For the 1951 mono on CD as things are, suggest the Capitol Masters box or Nat entry in the Capitol Collectors' Series, obviously not Steve mastered but ok sound, either should still be readily available cheap.
