We're definitely in a state, but not an American one.

Just to add to this that of course The Next Day had a song called 'You Feel So Lonely You Could Die', a line from Heartbreak Hotel.

    Is it coincidence?

Local record store sold out of Bowie stock, he's trying to anticapate the next casualty. Sold loads of Lemmy stuff. Thinks it's Ozzy next. I find this biz logic sad.

I'm feeling the same way. I really loved the single Blackstar after not being much impressed with Bowie since Outside/Earthling/Hours which i thought were fantastic. Never really got into Heathen/Reality and The Next Day was OK, but I loved Sue and 'Tis A Pity, was so looking forward to this album, and I think it was a real return to form.
I pre-ordered the clear vinyl, but now every time I look at it I think "Gravestone". I've listened to it once and loved it but it's so wrapped up in his death I don't want to hear it. I played a 1997 bootleg of an Amsterdam Paradiso gig today instead which I think helped me for a short while to pretend it hasn't happened.
BTW love to Japan - my girlfriend is from Hiroshima!

And Harrison. But to me Bowie is (was) THE one. Scott Walker has been quiet too unless I've missed it - but that's Scott Walker.

Don't know if I really want an expanded edition of Blackstar. Would feel like a 'PS..' being added to an epitaph.

FWIY, I bought the UK black vinyl on Friday and downloaded the MP3's as well. It's quite a different listening experience between the two, almost like it's a different mix. I don't have any issue with the MP3's as such, it's just different, but I would be very suprised if they didn't use a unique master (i.e. the uncompressed files) to master the vinyl.

I guess it depends on what the collection is about.

If you collect music records, then the black vinyl is the most collectible item as it represents the release of Bowie Blackstar music record in 2016 for the world.

If you collect artifacts, rare objects, limited editions, and so on... then sure the clear vinyl is more collectible. But I was referring to music record collections, not everything else.

Let's put it this way, in 50 years time, you're sitting all proud on your amazing vinyl collection, and you don't have the black vinyl release of Blackstar? I could live without the clear vinyl, but not without the black vinyl which is the main release with the most historical significance. In 50 years time, the black vinyl is the "time capsule", not some gimmick limited edition of some retailer or online store.

What makes a music collection more incomplete? Not having the clear vinyl LP? Or not having the black vinyl LP? ;)

But then, like I've said, it depends on what one collects...

Looking at my Facebook page, lots of my friends who probably haven't heard a Bowie track since "Blue Jean" are posting tributes. I hope they aren't out there buying Blackstar because I know the CD's will show up in the used bins in a few months.
