There's a big full page ad on the back of the new Billboard for "The Very Best of Jackson Browne". I wonder how the mastering will be? In stores in March.

WHERE IS THE ROE DVD-A???? :(

I hope they add a lot of digital echo to everything like they have been doing. Those old crappy mixes are just too dry. They sound so darn "70's"...

Ah, the '70s. Before every Tom, Dick and Harry got a Digital Workstation with "software loudness"! "Hey, we got it, let's use it!"

PS - There was an interesting item inside the mag about Jackson Browne. It states that his "immediate focus is on a series of DVD-As to be released on Warner Strategic Marketing this spring!.

What's Warner Strategic Marketing? Is that RHINO?

It's gotta be better, trackwise, than the "Next Voice You Hear" collection, which really left a lot to be desired.

I would have added/substituted "The Crow and the Cradle" (from the NO NUKES concert album) and "The Road and the Sky" or "Farther On" (both from Late for the Sky).

While I maintain my opinion that THE NEXT VOICE YOU HEAR is one of the most willfully botched greatest hit comps in memory, I thought the title track was the best thing Jackson Browne had done since HOLD OUT.
Looks like it'll be one of those annoying gotta-have tracks that'll keep fans from selling off an otherwise redundant collection.

Does anyone here like the song "Looking East"? I think that tune is exceptionally good. If played loud in the car, it always causes leadfoot to me.

If anyone has the Enhanced CD, there is a cool "making of" section where the song goes through various stages of creation - very interesting. It's neat to hear the track laid down and the lyric coming together.

To me, this is a "missed gem" of a tune that might have been huge in the late '70s, early '80s. This is the kind of tune that I really like that you don't hear that much anymore, strong guitars, strong drums, driving beat with a big buildup to the ending. I must just like guitars too much....

I can't see why this was not a hit, then a standard......?

Ron: having ragged on it, I do have to say that I do enjoy that song, as well.

For all intents and purposes, yes. It's the fancy-schmancy name for the Time Warner back catalog department, most (if not all) of which gets issued on Rhino.

    Thanks again, Tim!! ;)

(Note to gorts) Tim should get a custom title like "Forum Historian" or "Recorded History Guru" or something a bit more clever, as he always has a wealth of info, and does author those valuable Goldmine Price Guides!) :righton:

"Lawyers In Love" is a pretty significant hit to be left off of this thing, isn't it?

I've heard other folks say that, but why? I thought it was a good one disc overview, and it was aiming to be a "best of" vs. "greatest hits". It also had a couple of new songs that were pretty good; it looks like there's nothing new or archival in the upcoming set.

Steve, I remember some of those 70's albums from JB, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, to name a few, stating in their liner notes "This album was recorded using the Aphex Aural Exciter". Can u tell me...Just what did this thing do to the sound of these albums? Back then i thought these were some of the better sounding albums when compared to others.
    Thx,
    Tim

    Well,

I visited...of all places...Rhino Records homepage and found a revised(?) tracklisting:

    CD1:
    DOCTOR MY EYES
    JAMAICA SAY YOU WILL
    ROCK ME ON THE WATER
    TAKE IT EASY
    THESE DAYS
    REDNECK FRIEND
    FOR EVERYMAN
    FOR A DANCER
    FOUNTAIN OF SORROW
    LATE FOR THE SKY
    BEFORE THE DELUGE
    YOUR BRIGHT BABY BLUES
    THE PRETENDER
    HERE COME THOSE TEARS AGAIN
    THE LOAD-OUT
    STAY

    CD2:
    RUNNING ON EMPTY
    YOU LOVE THE THUNDER
    BOULEVARD
    SOMEBODY'S BABY
    TENDER IS THE NIGHT
    LAWYERS IN LOVE
IN THE SHAPE OF A HEART
    LAWLESS AVENUES
    LIVES IN THE BALANCE
    I AM A PATRIOT
    SKY BLUE AND BLACK
    I'M ALIVE
    THE BARRICADES OF HEAVEN
    LOOKING EAST
    THE NAKED RIDE HOME
    THE NIGHT INSIDE ME

If this is correct, they did rectify a big sin of omission with Lawyers in Love....

I'll definitely grab this one. The single disc was weak in selection and missed way too many key songs and singles.

Sorry I never saw this before. It's a machine that actually ADDS distortion to vocals. Sigh..

Yeah, but they dumped "That Girl Could Sing"! IIRC it was one of his bigger hits, no? I always loved Lindley's solo on that one, hate to see it left off...

They could have left off "The Naked Ride Home" tracks. That CD was a dissapointment to me.

This is from a fansite which seems pretty reliable in its information:

    http://www.jrp-graphics.com/jb/jbnews.html

The Very Best of Jackson Browne, a 32-track, 2-CD set, will be released on March 16th. Many of the songs have been remixed and all have been remastered. Jackson designed a very elegant package, and it includes liner notes by Dave Marsh and lyrics to all of the songs. (Please note that this is NOT an attempt by Elektra to release something because they can; Elektra has nothing to do with this release. It was totally created by Jackson with Rhino / Warner Strategic Marketing.)

It baffles my mind that Steve Hoffman was not chosen to master this compilation. Steve did a terrific job on the DCC Jackson Browne discs. What are these guys (the powers that be) thinking??

Seems pretty serviceable to me, pretty much covers the bases...what is that poor about it, besides personal faves that may be missing?
