These coming up releases are some of my favorite but damn it if I'm not overally excited about it. Hoping for the best on these. PJ got me one eyed closed and fingers crossed at the moment.
I was tempted to sell my original pressings a few years ago. Then I heard the Ten Redux on clear vinyl.
I can't speak to the new vinyl, but the 2017 remix of Avocado is out to download. No surprise THAT IT'S LOUD LOUD LOUD. The original version of it was no sonic masterpiece, but the new mix is even LOUDER at DR5. Dude! That's a crazy amount of pink there in your CD scanning wave-form whatchamacallit. Let's hope the LPs are better!
Riot Act already has a rating of 3/5 for the vinyl reissue on discogs and 4/5 for Binaural. No deadwax info so far, so we still don’t know who cut these....
Holy hell. I can't believe they made avocado even worse. Didn't think it was possible. And a shame, it's a really underrated album musically.
Just got my shipping email from the ten club. 5-8 days. Kind of drives me crazy that they are released on the tenth and won't get here till 16th or so. Why do they not ship them a week ahead of time? I guess its not really a big deal since I have had all these cd's forever but I should have used amazon!
I am almost in disbelief that they did that. Perhaps they think it is opposite day. 'This sounds like s**t.' 'I agree. Lets make it worse'
Pearl Jam has never once released a product that can even remotely be considered audiophile, on either CD or vinyl, so it continues to amuse me when people expect better from them. I have a friend who asked Eddie Vedder why their CD's and vinyl are so compressed, and Vedder was completely confused by the question and had to ask my friend to explain what he was talking about. I get the feeling that they are more interested in counting wads of cash than releasing high quality product.
Oh no. Is this the 24/192 from HDTracks? I'm a big fan of the music on this album, but it just sounds like crap. Why would they remix/remaster it worse??? I also wonder what the source was. Why would they release it as a 24/44.1 and a 24/192? Makes me think the 24/192 is just upsampled. 80s drums are the reason i can't listen to Petty or Springsteen. Have you listened to Binaural or Riot Act?
Anyone listened to the vinyl yet? I have Binaural and Riot Act supposedly coming today. Left self titled for the moment in case it turns out to be a dud.
I don't like the remix -- maybe some people will like the drum sound. I found it shocking. I don't believe the self titled was recorded to tape, and it wouldn't make sense that it was recorded in 24/192 I don't think. I have listened to all of them now. Didn't find Riot Act as offensive.
Is the s/t the only one that was remixed for this release? Am I correct in assuming Riot Act and Binaural still have the original mixes?
My s/t vinyl should arrive today. I'm interested to hear the remix, but would have definitely taken a nicely mastered version of the original mix. That album is one that sounds perfectly "crunchy" to me.
someone posted DR results over on PJ forum for the HD Tracks downloads. Binaural DR6, Avocado DR5....
