Nope I had forgotten that. I can't really remember if single vinyl lps were all the same cost at any point in time. Dylan's New Morning came out in 1970 as did Atom HM and Led Zep 3 but the later 2 were lovely gatefolds. Not like stingy old Bob's.
If I recall correctly 'New Morning' was the first release in CBS UK's 69xxx series, introduced to put popular, quality artists on another level and in a cunning and tricky gear change, raise prices and gouge more money out of us.
They say mastered by Bernie Grundman on the sticker, somehow I get the impression (or at least hope) that would mean that it's going to pressed for the world at the same plant in the EU. Here's hoping for pre-orders to be up soon for the US market, I hate ordering vinyl overseas.
Really hope these are all analogue but the reissue campaign seems to be mirroring the Led Zeppelin one. Could really do with those first two in mono too. I can only hope!
What's the rush with pre-ordering these? Will be widely and easily available everywhere for a long time...
I will have them available as soon as the distributor can give me some numbers. I called them this morning and they had nothing. Typical. "It's not in the system yet"
"It's added that these first four releases were remastered for vinyl by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman, and that they are being preserved on 180-gram vinyl. It's added that "special care has been taken to replicate the original packaging." I see the Gigi cover is shown on Ummagumma....nice.
Looks like the first three will replicate the original UK labels - Columbia with blue text for Piper and Saucerful and Columbia with white text for More. That label for Ummagumma looks to have a new logo associated with the campaign, so I guess WEA/Sony won't be replicating Harvest labels. Not surprised!
I wouldn't be surprised to see this (and other) Mono versions as part of a "complete" box set or something like that
speaking of which...the LZ campaign included hi-res releases of everything. I've not seen anything as of yet that suggests we'll be getting hi-res Pink Floyd anytime soon. I'd almost rather that over more PF digitally-sourced vinyl.
Stereo. See sticker and label at A Saucerful of Secrets [VINYL]: Amazon.co.uk: Music » I'd love mono versions for the first two!
