Essentially '8o's hair metal power ballads with an updated sound and a slight--sometimes imperceptible --"twang; beer-drinking music for white people.

Poison's "Every Rose Has it's Thorn" is it's ancestral touchstone.

Well, if that's your definition of country music, Hello Sunshine is something entirely different.

Totally. That's why I said earlier that "Hello Sunshine" is more country than what passes for "country" these days.

Let's just agree this goes into my newly created 'wide open spaces' genre, which I hope is in the same vein as the album itself.
A great song is a great song regardless of which box we put it in.

He could have named the album "You Can Trust Your Car To The Man Who Wears The Western Star".

I was never able to decide if "You Can Trust Your Car To The Man Who Wears The Star" was the coolest or worst boot title ever. It does have an interesting Wings for wheels on it though.

It's clearly not a great song by any standards and certainly not Bruce's.

I have bashed Bruce's music of the last 10 years and I'm not a big country fan. However, I really liked Hello Sunshine. Best thing he's done in years. IMO

My favorite Tom Petty saying " modern country is just a bad rock band with a fiddle"

Same with me. I have liked virtually nothing since Magic.
He may have found his sweet spot with "Hello Sunshine."

Just heard Hello Sunshine, his vocals on it are great! Gives me high hopes for the album.

The title was a reference to old advertisements for Texaco full-service gas stations. The Texaco logo us a star that was on the attendant's uniform.

Yeah, aside from "The Wall" from High Hopes and, to a lesser degree, "The Last Carnival" from Working on a Dream, I tend to agree. "Hello Sunshine" is promising. If it's genuinely indicative of what we should expect with the new album, then I'm very much looking forward to Western Stars.

I like the song. It unapologetically emanates the late 60s-early 70s era of crossover "country pop" music. Yeah it sounds like "Everybody's Talking", which so many thought was a Glen Campbell song (and yes he did cover it), and personally- I hope the whole album captures that era.

This is my favorite summary of just how bad contemporary mainstream country music has gotten:

It is why a blog like Saving Country Music is extolling great praise for "Hello, Sunshine"

It was certainly a better title than "**** Hot And Rockin'"! And yeah, that version of Thunder Road (apparently the first time it was played live) is certainly something different. And I absolutely LOVE the different arrangement of New York City Serenade on YCTYCTTMWWTS!

I think the rampant Autotune in that video is worse than the beat!

What’s the matter with that guy? He makes good points but he’s hard to watch because of his ridiculous head and eye movements

Ha - I just listened to the video in the background so I didn't see any of that! :)

Based on the titles, I want to hear "Moonlight Motel" and "Drive Fast."

"Sundown" has the same title as that Gordon Lightfoot hit , a song I've always thought Bruce could credibly cover.

One more thought, again based on titles--is it possible Bruce is making a subtle play for the "Nashville" country music market ? Will we ever see Bruce play the Grand Ole' Opry?

My $0.02: Better than and different from most of the recent efforts. Pleasant enough for a few listens, but I don't see myself listening to it much (if at all) long-term. Interested in hearing the full album, though.
