This won't matter to those who only sell CDs/vinyl/cassettes/etc. But if you sell memorabilia (posters, etc.) it's gonna hit you.

Starting this month, they instituted a new SURCHARGE of $4 for anything that is >= 22 inches on a side. And a whopping $15 if any dimension is over 30". If you sell posters, your prices just jumped, for example. Same with musical instruments like guitars. Speaker stands. Etc.

Oh, and a large box (more than 2 cubic feet) ALSO gets the $15 surcharge now. 2 cubic feet is roughly a 15x15x15" box. Not many will be using a box that big for music, of course.

Thankfully, Media Mail is not a part of the surcharges.

The rule isn't new although the defined tariffs are. I got hosed on a 2 pound package more than 24 inches in length decades ago and have avoided them ever since. I don't generally use UPS or Fedex but I think they have similar rules.

Right, they'd be paying out the wazoo, no question.

Definitely not true - I shipped a big ol' box with Fed Ex recently, and there was no surcharge.

Imagine selling 30+ inch posters...you'd be creamed n reamed by the $15 surcharge.

They may have to think twice about throwing that vinyl LP into the giant box with no padding.

Right. This is bad news if you are selling "subway-sized" posters, which are >30" on the shorter side. I mean, it gets baked into the total cost of the item, but it's a sucky pill to swallow.

$15 added to $12 to mail a 31" poster. Yikes. Poster dealers must be going crazy. You need a loan to go to IHOP these days with jacked prices. Walmart yesterday: $5.68 12pack Coke, today $6.19. What's next?
