Finally been through this box and I'd rank the discs 2>4>3>1

2, 3, and 4 are excellent. Still not so into a lot of the studio stuff on Disc 1 but I need to give it a few more spins. Overall, great box set and I'm glad I bought it.

I've listened to the whole box once so far and 4 is the one that caught my attention.

I've listened to 1 and 2 So far. 1 Is very interesting and sounds great. Not particularly keen on 'Item 1' just sounds like a jam that didn't really work. Disk 2 Is not good. The band are a not as tight as they would become and the horrible effect on the vocals is very off putting. King Kong is not bad but I am unlikely to ever listen to that disk again.

Think I will probably end up distilling the 4 disks into a 'best of' set.

Hard disagree on Disc 2. The Leslie effect on the vocals is awesome, and the playing on this sounds plenty tight to me, while also sounding kinda wild and unhinged. I thought I'd dislike Disc 2 after reading some early comments on this board, but I think it's my favorite of the bunch (though Disc 4 is a close contender).

I completely agree. Disc 2 is a difficult listen. I really enjoy the studio material on Disc 1!

I'm not a fan of the Leslie vocals on Disc 2. Discs 3 and 4 are pretty primo but Disc 1 is kind of so-so.

I'm really glad that the Trust released this but it doesn't immediately grab me like the Hot Rats box did. Maybe I'll warm up to it with repeated listens.

Just listening today. I dont know if I need the Fillmore stuff for the 5th time. There's a p0erfect sounding Easy Meat on teh Fillmore West show that is around, but the show is typical Frank vs. SF crowd

...just to throw my $.02 out there after one go round- discs 1, 3 & 4 perfection, just as I imagined this set would be. Disc 2, errrrr?? I started imagining Parliament’s Motor Booty Affair with the water gurgling effects. :D
I’ll be giving it more time as per usual, just first impressions and all...

Can anyone recommend other shows from this era with fidelity as high or higher than that of the Fillmore sets that circulate. I love those shows.

The Fillmore recordings are the best there is. There is also the Paris show which is good but has some audio problems. Thats it.

I think I have been slightly spoilt by the Fillmore recordings to be honest - meaning the live tracks (excluding the jams) have lost a bit of their novelty value.

The only proper recording from this lineup prior to this box was Chunga's Revenge, correct?

Gotcha, thanks! And the version of Sharleena from the Trident studios disc is the one used on Chunga's?

Onto disc 3. Digging this a lot. Trouble Every Day and King Kong really smoke!

  25. I like what sounds to me like a mandolin or maybe a sped up acoustic guitar at ca. 2:5o in the RTB mix of Sharleena. Omitted in the Chunga's Revenge mix.
