Not super keen on Flo & Eddie but the price is right and the packaging isn't stupid. I'm in!

When in '70 was "Chunga Basement" recorded? Assuming sometime in May, right before the Trident sessions on disc 1? Because that's one of my favorite FZ jams and it currently languishes only on the Quaudiophiliac set. I realize it's a basement recording and everything but surely they could have squeezed it onto disc 1 (maybe even as a bonus track?) without messing too much with the chronology..

Oh, and I like the cover art!

This is not the VPRO show, this is Paris, Dec 15, 1970.

It is a great read, though naturally quite a bit to go through. Sometimes, it’s inconclusive as far as who played what on certain tracks (particularly the piano and keys on Cruising With Ruben & The Jets), but still very thorough by and large

THAT’S RIGHT, YOU HEARD RIGHT! THE SECRET WORD IS MUD SHARK AND WITH THE MUD SHARK SECRET WORD COMES THE MUD SHARK ARPEGGIO... a marvelous little arpeggio.

This is the same footage that the VPRO show used. Just compare the two. I believe they also mention San Francisco or the Fillmore, although I'd have to watch it again to see where.

[edit] I take that back. I thought you were talking about one of the other clips. My bad.

Some folks are confusing the VPRO 1970 performance on the box set with the VPRO documentary from 1971. They are two entirely different things. There is no video available from the 1970 performance. Only audio.

Thanks! Just ordered. Was tempted to bundle with some of the grey market / FM broadcast CDs I don't have but decided against it for now.

no stupid games, gloves, masks?? no toys?

Did the foolish Ahmet finally get the hint?

This new set is pre ordered. Hopefully Flo & Eddie aren't too annoying on this set....they have ruined a lot of great Zappa music during their tenure i'd say, but i still play it
from time to time. Just never liked them being so annoying in Zappa's band.

Hoping for more Waka/Jawaka, Grand Wazoo stuff in the future too :)

This box set is destined to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology.

and neither was the HOT Rats Box set, yet it had an idiotic game included which wasn't needed and just racked up the price....
    so what's your point?

No need to be combative, yeah the game was stupid and unnecessary, but Im not convinced it racked the price up that much.

and you didn't need any horrible packaging to fit it in. I have more unnecessary baubles in my Floyd Immersion sets.

Yes, if it wasn't for the game the set would have been less than ten bucks.

As stated many times, you can buy all these excellent releases as downloads if the physical product bothers you so much.

The artwork & packaging for Zappa releases has been almost entirely awful since his death in 1993. It's not going to change, get used to it.

That being said, this one doesn't look too bad but I would buy it anyway no matter what it looked like.

Im surprised by how happy people are with the price point on this...

current Amazon Price $59.92 for 4 cds in a clamshell with a booklet. I expect it to drop down to around $50 before release.

however when Roxy box came out (7cds in clamshell) was $44 at shipping, right now on Amazon $36.15!

A little high for just 4 cds and book in a clamshell but being a zappa freak ill have to order but still...

Pre ordered from Resident Records in Brighton (near me) for £45.99. Not bad to be honest! Looking forward to it as I love me some jamming with Aynsley!
