And compare the price of this box to the roxy box which is exact same packaging but with 3 more cds of music and cost only $44 on Amazon on releass and currently at $36.

    exactly !
and the hot rats box was 6 cd's, yet costs around $120....so kinda sounds like the game did bring up the price quite a bit, since it's the only main difference, other than the larger packaging for Hot Rats.....which, that's right...is because of the stupid game !

Hopefully they will release both by the end of 2020. I am really looking forward to it!

I believe the difference in price for the Hot Rats boxset, is because HR is a favorite of many fans, it is even revered way outside the fanbase limitation. It was always going to sell, no matter what non-musical gimmick they would put inside the box. People who likes 70s rock and people who likes jazz, or fusion or whatever, love the album. They raised the price for this one because they could. They knew it was going to sell.
It is obvious the new 1970 box will sell less than the HR box, even if its price is nicer.

They certainly would have sold even more without the added game. I never bothered to purchase it, and I love that album.

No sane person would have paid that much for 6cds and a booklet, but a bonus game, well that's a reasonable purchase. [Apply sarcasm to the last sentence]

Really? Just because of the game ?
I really consider $87 (US dollars) to be not so un-reasonable a price for six and a half hours of unreleased music, game or no game.

At least the game is folded up & stuffed at the bottom of the box, tbh I often forget it’s in there, that’s about the best thing you can say about it.

Lowest price I saw was $130 CDN on Amazon and now its up to $160. That puts it out of my comfort range. I still feel icky for having paid $85 CDN for the 73 Halloween box.

without me. Excepted for "hot rats" and " burnt weeny sandwich" , i'm not interested by Zappa's recordings before '72 .

    say what??

the earlier Mothers stuff is my favorite....Absolutely Free is still my favorite FZ album with any incarnation of the Mothers. The Mothers without Flo & Eddie is always better, imo.

Chunga's Basement was recorded in quad as well wasn't it?

Frank was recording in quad on a prototype machine before it was commercially available!
One of the very first dudes to record with it!

At the moment I answered you, it was $87 US dollars on Amazon.com.
At the moment I am writing THIS message, it still is.

Which I've been tempted to buy on more than one occasion for an exorbitant price despite not having any way to play it and despite having a perfectly acceptable MP3 version.

That's how much I love "Chunga Basement!"

    I'll buy this for sure.

I saw this band in Oct 70 at Peterson Gym, which was right next door to my dorm at San Diego State. I still remember it pretty vividly.

You don't have a DVD player? It's an okay disc but I wouldn't pay a lot for it. I got it from Wayside Music for 8 bucks when they got hold of some close out copies.

    A couple of things.
Joe had already stated that the Grand Wazoo box is coming in 2022. So let’s look forward to whatever surprises they release in the meanwhile.
I love all things Zappa and I am in the minority liking the Flo and Eddie based band but Hot Rats Is IMHO his masterpiece.
