And this repackaging...Tuck Box The posthumous marketing of Nick Drake's music has been arduous and fitful, a decades-long attempt at setting right what everyone agreed went horribly wrong the first time. His new box set Tuck Box,the latest and possibly final repackaging, includes studio albums Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter, and Pink Moon as well as two compilations of rarities. Nick Drake: Tuck Box Album Review | Pitchfork
Discovered Nick Drake( proper) when Simply Vinyl reissued his first three albums around 2000. Of course I found later the company used a cd to master them for vinyl.
So young and seemingly full of hope, confidence, maybe even a little swagger, and creative genius (that, he never lost).
Sad thing I passed on a used Pink Moon original Island (15.00) for the SV reissues....brand new I thought, a few £££ more. You live and learn, sadly.
Ouch, ouch. I've never seen an original vinyl of any of the three. You can count yourself lucky to have seen one anyway!
Tried out Nick Drake 1979 blue UK Island Bryter Layter ( blue brothel creepers/guild guitar cover) black inner, with a pair of sixties /seventies speakers Celestion Ditton 15 speakers, Garrard 401, Leak TL12+. Nice match complimentary music.
I have the original fruit tree box set. The records look mint but are noisy and poppy. Anyone noticed this.
Harry Robinson. Mentioned earlier. He worked on a couple of Humblebum songs at Sound Technique with John Wood, 1970 A notable Gerry Rafferty psych jazz "Keep It To Yourself"..awesome tune, don't tell anyone though, as in
Followed that with Heaven In A Wildflower CD ( Hitachi 80s cdp) with the Dittons/Leak set up and it sounded even better. That's a good comp.
I am giving a listen to this album at the moment and enjoy it very much. I am quite certain if not in this thread then certainly on this forum that this album was recommended and I would pass that recommendation one. I love here interpretations of his work. Since I have only seen the reissue--I have two nice Island reissues on vinyl. One is single cover and one is the gatefold--how does the American cover differ? This nice label for the gatefold. The "Island" label on the other. This (1969 UK original) went for $891 in 2016...and it was just a VG rating. Not even VG+.
And speaking of interpretations of Nick Drake music I remember an album of Nick's music done by musicians using old English folk instruments. Can any one help me with the name of the artists or album? Sorry, I just needed to be a little more patient. I found it. Yes. Quite nice. He does interpretations of other artists too, but the Nick Drake album and series of live concerts is quite good. Joel Frederiksen "Which Will"
All vinyl records benefit from a WET clean. Even brand new ones. The cheapest way to get started is with this system. Its around £40/$50. When you empty the bath & see all the grit & gunge at the bottom you'll be convinced. And it really does reduce static. I've since moved on to an ultrasonic cleaner, quicker & better, but still use the drying rack from this system.
