He really wasn't shot dead, he lingered for a while. Nonetheless, sad news and a sad loss for the community.

He was just starting to get some mainstream recognition with his album being nominated for a Grammy.

As per the local news, it's the same level as John Lennon being killed.

While he didn't write music anywhere near the level of Lennon.
He did over 1,000 times more for the people around him.
In the black community, he was legendary.

He took care of his own backyard. He did it without lip service.
He didn't have the capital to move YET.
He had that vision and we knew he'd do it.

Here on the east coast amongst all the hip hop heads I talk to.
    Legendary.
He was that generational one that we seem to lose over and over and over again.
    This one was really painful.

That sounds like a huge loss. I didn't know about his East Coast cred.

FDT was one of the few rap songs of recent years I could get into, not just because of the subject matter but because it was catchy. Funnily enough, I had it going round my head a couple of days before he died. Strange how that works.

Multiple people were injured in a massive stampede during a memorial in Los Angeles for slain rapper Nipsey Hussle on Monday, as hundreds were paying their respects near the scene where he was fatally shot.

Chaos erupted outside of the late rapper's Marathon Clothing store near the Crenshaw District on Monday night when a large crowd of mourners rushed to flee the scene after hearing a loud noise, according to police.

At least 19 people were transported to local hospitals with various trample-related injuries, and several others were treated on the scene for minor injuries, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Two victims were suffering from "critical" injuries, and two others had injuries described as "serious." At least one person may have been hit by a vehicle.

Guess they caught the killer not far from me and took him to the station even closer to be. Helicopter right over my house.
