    One bit of encouraging news is that listeners liked music that was not too predictable. They want to be surprised by the next chord, but not slapped in the face. A songwriter has to keep them engaged. That’s why so many formulaic pop songs fall flat.

    I think it is too playfull and experimental to be labeled strictly a pop song. It's pop and comedy and reggae and jugband and children's music and nonsensical Paul at his best. It's a masterpiece of 60s pop art with a sense of humor.

    It was selected as one of the demos in my second toy synthesizer, among such classics as "I'm Not in Love" and "Danny Boy".

    The greatest pop record ever is "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5. For one thing, it's the perfect length for a single (just under 3 minutes,) instantly infectious even before the vocals kicks in, has a great guitar riff, strings, and background vocals, a killer groove (check out the bassline!) varied percussion, and you can dance to it. That's a scientific formula for the ages, kids.

    Whoa, whoa, whoa...you mean to tell me there's a difference between "this song/artist sucks" and "I don't like this song/artist"? Boy, some people on this forum are in for a surprise...

    I like Obladi Oblada and the antipathy to it doesn't impress me, but best pop song ever? No way!

    Terrible song.

    Not even close to the best pop song. o_O

    "Good Vibrations" might be, though.

    "Chord sequences from 30 of the songs were then played to 39 volunteers, stripped of lyrics and melody to make the source track unrecognisable. The volunteers were asked to rate how enjoyable they felt each chord to be"

    so.....39 volunteers is what we're basing this on? and how is an individual chord supposed to deter......what am I doing. its Saturday night.....I need a life :shrug: :biglaugh: :doh::doh::doh::doh: :mudscrying:

    Last few weeks, I've been going around work singing the hook of this song, and getting strange looks.
    They look at me like a weirdo....
    Scenario:
    Them: 'Darn, the truck is delayed, we won't get our stock, we wont be able to process it,
    we might have to stay back or work late.... dunno how we can fix it. ARRRRHHHH'
    Me: Ob-Li-Di-Ob-La Da, life goes on..... ahhhhh! La La La La life goes on :)
    Them: WTF?
    Me::wiggle:

    Ok, Yeah I'm strange.
