Agreed and understood, but I guess the line between an amazing album by this band and an amazing live performance is blurred. Kind of Blue IS one od the best albums of all time, but different that say Sgt. Pepper. Maybe it's like comparing a Vermeer and a Rothko...
It's an excellent choice. I wouldn't say it's my #1 favourite album ever but it's very high up there in my life. Masterpiece if ever was one
Dark Side is the perfect start to end listening experience. Absolutely faultless. It certainly isn't the best collection of songs, it doesn't feature the most captivating playing and isn't knitted-together by the most illuminating production BUT as a taken-in-one-sitting complete artistic statement I think it is unassailable. Kind of Blue comes a close second. There are plenty of classical recordings I would put into the frame too (Maria Calls Sings Operatic Arias for one) but that's not what I think this thread is asking for.
I genuinely couldn't choose a favourite album, but if I had to then why not this? Sheer Heart Attack would be up there too. I got it when I was about ten and have loved it since, as much as ever now. Then there's Electric Ladyland... It's the impossible to answer question. What are your favourites?
I object on the basis that favourite albums of all time choices can't be objective. Physical Graffiti seeing as you ask.
The topic is an oxymoron....but... Kind of Blue... Or from the rock era... The Dark side of the moon Or for those under 50... OK Computer Or for the sheer hell of it... Never mind the bollocks.... here's the Sex Pistols
This is hard to say...I have hundreds of favourite albums, it depends on the day. But there are albums I've been listening in a regular basis throughout the years and never cease to amaze me or making me feel better every time I listen em..they are always close to me. REM "Murmur", Neil Young "On the beach", Patti Smith "Horses", The Beat "Special Beat Service", Tim Hardin "1", the first volume of Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures (this one is a new discovery)... And it's obvious, most of the Beatles discography
I love Murmur. That's a fave of mine too. On The Beach and Horses are great of course. I only have a best of LP from the 60s by Tim Hardin, but he's a fantastic singer songwriter, a genre I don't often like. I love the first Beat album, but surprisingly I've never heard Special Beat Service. A nice unusual choice there. Agree on the entire Beatles catalogue. A Hard Day's Night is spinning now.
I saw them from outside a Sydney pub peering in the window when I was 16 years old and can attest to the fact that they were a class act.I still remember them playing Field of glass...chilling.
Prob ones that got me into music as a young man , Jesus and mary Chsin - psychocandy (god that was played n played , my mum Mustv been going crazy !). Echo and the bunnymen - heaven up here . Still play them .
