Dewey Terry - Sweet as Spring Dewey Terry was one part of the rock and roll duo Don & Dewey who released several singles on Art Rupe's Specialty label in the late 50s. As a solo artist Dewey Terry released only one album in 1972: "Chief" on the Tumbleweed label out of Denver/Colorado.
Probably not obscure to those on this forum, but my go-to obscure 70s song would be "Dancing Madly Backwards" or "Raging River of Fear" from the first Captain Beyond album. Always results in a "Woah..." from those who hear it for the first time.
The artist isn't obscure, but I love Glen Campbell's recording of Randy Newman's "Marie" (a cut on the Rhinestone Cowboy LP, not released a single):
The Jolt - You're Cold Scottish band formed in Wishaw (15 miles south-east of Glasgow) in 1976. They only released three singles in 1977/1978, one self-titled album in 1978, and on four-track EP in 1979. All records were released on the Polydor label. "You're Cold" is their debut single from 1977.
Grootna - I'm Funky Rock and soul band from the Bay Area that existed only for a very short period from mid-1971 to mid-1972. They released one album (produced by Jefferson Airplane's Marty Balin) and two singles, all released on the Columbia label. "I'm Funky" is the opening track from their self-titled album, released in 1971. "'Cause I'm funky, but I'm clean Do you know what I mean So fu**in' funky, but I'm clean Do you know what I mean"
I’m really glad that someone else digs this. I have it on a 3-LP CBS sampler called The Music People.
"Ariel" by Dean Friedman - I always think of him & this song as a budget version of Billy Joel. "Burning Bridges" by The Mike Curb Congregation - I always liked the way this was done. Mike Curb Congregation - Burning Bridges (with lyrics) "Hymme" by Vangelis - This was used in a 1986 wine commercial. Ernest & Julio Gallo Wine Commercial - 1986 "If Love Must Go" by Dobie Gray - One of his best that I never hear on the radio anymore. DOBIE GRAY~IF LOVE MUST GO "To Be Lovers" by The Partridge Family - I love this song! mainly for the 1:11 to 1:26 segment where David Cassidy's real voice was used. Amazing!!! TO BE LOVERS ~ The Partridge Family
Emmett Finley - Paula's Song Guitarist and singer born in Oakland/New Jersey, now residing in Glenwood Springs/Colorado. He only released one self-titled psychedelic folk-rock album on Poison Ring Records in 1971. "Paula's Song" is a track from this album.
Longdancer - Puppet Man British folk rock band who released two abums and three singles on The Rocket Record Company label in 1973/1974. "Puppet Man" was their final single, released in 1974. The band included Dave Stewart, who would later form the synthpop duo Eurythmics with Annie Lennox, and Brian Harrison, who would later be part of the short-lived group Dransfield together with brothers Robin and Barry Dransfield.
Without going through 18 pages and counting, there’s always this Walter Egan classic, with help from Stevie and Lindsay.
