I watched the 2013 remake of Carrie recently, and while looking up reviews was surprised to come across this poster, featuring Jodie Foster, who does not appear in the film. The part of Carrie's mum is played by Julianne Moore, who also replaced Foster in "Hannibal". I found this poster intriguing, and wondered if you could come up with any other film posters or promotional material, featuring actors who are not in the actual film!
Fan-made Poster For 'Carrie' Remake Starring Chloe Moretz Gets Thumbs Up From Director Kimberly Peirce Apparently that's just a fake "fan-made" poster that was put on Facebook after the movie was announced but before the full cast/crew was known. The cast/crew at the bottom of the poster is also inaccurate.
I see there’s a credit for the design of this poster featured below the central credits block for P-L Boucher. A quick search found the artist’s website where it’s made clear these are fan created posters.
Roger Corman produced 5 excellent Nurses movies in the 70's. The poster for each film showed 4 young ladies but only 3 were featured in each film.
There’s a few (cough, cough) monster movies where the monster is way cooler in the poster art than in the movie.
The 1997 poster for The Empire Strikes Back Special Edition shows Emperor Palpatine as if he were portrayed by Ian McDiarmid, but that character was played by Marjorie Eaton (and voiced by Clive Revill) in both the 1980 original and the 1997 SE version of Empire. McDiarmid played Palpatine in all the other Star Wars films (and he did eventually replace Eaton/Revill in Empire starting with the 2004 DVD release). The poster also shows Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, which didn’t appear in Empire. Similar errors appear in the other SE posters: A New Hope and Return of the Jedi show Leia and Boba Fett (respectively) as they appeared in Empire.
That sounds like the toy trains in the 50's and 60's, the picture in the box was way better than the actual train inside.
This isn’t an exact example, but it’s the closest thing that comes to my mind. The poster for Valley Girl features Nicholas Cage, but not Deborah Foreman, the valley girl of the title. The reason was that Foreman hadn’t been cast when the poster was created to drum up interest in the film. Instead, Cage is pictured with Tina Theberge, who is in the film, but in a small role.
Ana de Armas appeared in the trailer of Yesterday but it ended up as a deleted scene. Ana de Armas fans told they can sue over Yesterday trailer

In the upper-right corner there are a trio of X-Wings, one of which is firing its laser cannons. But in the film, we never see this many X-Wings together, and the one we do see (Luke's) is never used in a battle scene and therefore never fires it weapons.
There were movie-industry magazine ads which feature John Travolta as the titular lead in "American Gigolo", which of course, ended up being played by Richard Gere. - Kevin
