Rodney’s English Disco guy ( Davy Jones stand in) said he turned up at the ranch to pick up chicks, but there was just really dirty hippie types.,he passed.
Doubly coincidentally, I too was reading this book (and still am) and saw that Jay Sebring is mentioned on page 91. I was also interested in the stars who were around the Canyon at the time - Joni Mitchell , Peter Tork, Frank Zappa, Micky Dolenz, Van Dyke Parks, The Doors and more, in addition to the aforementioned McQueen, Wilson, Melcher and The Mamas and The Papas - and wonder whether including one of Cass Elliot's pool parties (OK, drug-fuelled orgies) might have been less of an anachronism than the Playboy Mansion do?
Those of you that like Res Dogs, why? As a huge Quentin fan, I watched it and witnessed great acting, but I felt the film just meandored along and I was almost bored. I know I’m missing something, what? It’s rates so high on various Q lists.
For me it's the story. I think it was a great screenplay. Maybe if the ensemble wasn't so large they could have went deeper into Mr White and Mr Orange's growing/bonding relationship. Also the way we the audience is trying to figure out what's going on and that is exactly what they are doing in the movie,...
Maybe this was covered pages ago but I just watched "Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" from which QT extracted the 'Miss Lillie Langtry' cue on the soundtrack. In 'Roy Bean" it clearly serves to elegiacally underscore the "legend is over and time is passing" tenor of the final scene. I'd guess its used intentionally at the end of OUATIH in the same manner, even though QT has said he doesn't like music too 'on the nose' emotionally. It is an odd piece of music, a bit harmonically disjunctive, likes its always reaching or trying to evoke a nostalgia that evaporates. In that sense, I think it works quite well for QT. though I note that "Roy Bean" came out 3 years after the events of OUATIH. QT, playin' with the space time continuum, which is why I think he's just the guy to do a big screen "Time Tunnel."
I'm living the dream. A new dancer showed up at the local club who looks like Francesca Carbuchi. She's actually Mexican, but those women seem to share a similar construct --- and I love it. My Francesca has arrived. I am madly in love.
I'm looking forward to reading the screenplay. When will that be possible? is it possible now? CLIFF: So how were the pickles? PUSSYCAT: Real good, they were the fancy kind...mmm
It was because in a time of excessive sugary fairytale and action nonsense , Tarantino turned the focus back on character and writing. It was refreshing to hear people TALK. This was a Low budget film, too. Pre-Kill Bill budgets. Though at that time he wasn’t Doing comic book violence, it was realistic violence
