OK, let's establish that having Steve remaster the Beatles catalog would be the ultimate both from most of our standpoints and his. But let's say we have the chance to continue that super series from Steve's MCA days called Vintage Rock. Let's just bring in a few more labels. I'll start:
    1. Dancin' In The Moonlight- King Harvest
    2. Vehicle - Ides Of March
    3. Bang A Gong - T-Rex
    4. All Right Now - FREE
    5. Give Me Just A Little More Time- Chairmen Of The Board
    6. American Pie - Don McLlean
    7. Pick Up The Pieces - AWB
    8. Smoke From A Distant Fire - Sanford/Townsend Band
    9. Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)-Edison Lighthouse
    10. Please Come To Boston - Dave Loggins
    11. Seems It Never Rains In Southern California - Albert Hammond

I'm not familiar with the original series, and I couldn't find it on cdnow, so I may just be posting duplicates.

Some of these are pretty cheesy, but cheese seems to be the hallmark of many a "One Hit Wonder (tm)".

    In no particular order:

    David Essex - Rock On
Argent - Hold Your Head Up
Elvin Bishop - Fooled Around and Fell in Love
The Hollies - Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress
Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town
    Boomtown Rats - I Don't Like Monday's
Stealers Wheel - Stuck In The Middle With You
Silver Convention - Fly Robin Fly
Terry Jacks - Seasons in the Sun
Walter Egan - Magnet & Steel
    Peter Schilling - Major Tom
    The Knack - My Sharona
Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride (ok...so they are a two hit wonder)
Diesel - Sausalito Summernight (does anyone else remember this?!)
    Red Rider - Lunatic Fringe
    Saga - On The Loose

[Edited to fix a typo (or 3)]

    1. 96 Tears - ? and the Mysterians (but I'm betting you'll never be able to wangle that tape away from Allen Klein)

    2. Hello Stranger - Barbara Lewis (well, she's not a one hit wonder, but I really wanted to include it)

    3. Green Door - Jim Lowe (though I think you may have done this one already...)

    4. Expressway to Your Heart - The Soul Survivors

    5. Rescue Me - Fontella Bass

    6. Band of Gold - Freda Payne

    7. Concrete & Clay - Unit 4+2

    20. Girl Watcher - The Okaysions

    21. A Lover's Concerto - The Toys

    22. Get Ready - Rare Earth

    23. Sweet Soul Music - Arthur Conley

And this doesn't even mention the ones that I wish you had a shot at by some "multi-hit wonders", Like "Cold Sweat" by James Brown, the Temps "Ball of Confusion", The Four Seasons "Let's Hang On" (especially the great stereo mix that Dick Bartley has), Chubby's "The Twist", "Palisades Park" by Freddy Cannon, and SO many others too numerous to mention...

Thanks for the opportunity to name a few, though!!!

    -Joel Cairo

    ***************************

And HZ, even here in the States I think the Hollies rate as being more than just a "one-hit wonder"!! :D

Steve, if you're keeping count, that's **two** votes each for "You Sexy Thing" and "I Can Help"... :)

...and how on **earth** could I have forgotten our Beatles engineer/pop star Norman "Hurricane" Smith?? Nice addition, Dave.

    Lies!

Can't remember the name of the band, but I'm sure many of you know this song. Its a great Beatles imitation, from '65 I believe.

This list is heavy on the oldies side (I think most of the truly great one-hit wonders are usually from the 45-rpm era, anyway). I also included a few mentioned by others just to second those choices.

    Sweet Soul Music
Thin Line Between Love & Hate
Land of 1000 Dances (Cannibal & the Headhunters)
    Gimme Some Lovin'
    Rescue Me
Train Kept A Rollin' (Johnny Burnette Trio)
    Be-Bop-A-Lula
    Dark End Of The Street
Mountain's High (may be real tough finding a good master for this)
    Sea Cruise
    Summertime Blues
    C'mon Everybody
Hippy Hippy Shake - Chan Romero
    Gino Is A Coward
    The Loco-Motion
Keep Your Hands Off My Baby
    96 Tears
    Walk Away Renee
    Little Latin Lupe Lu
    One Fine Day - Chiffons
    Party Lights
    Love Is Strange
Needles & Pins - The Searchers
    Surfin' Bird - Trashmen
    The Wind - Nolan Strong
    The Stroll
    Peppermint Twist
    Little Darlin'
    Donna
    Come On, Let's Go
    La Bamba

Folks, I'm in awe of your resources (and the extra time you have on your hands) to come up with such wonderful lists.

I love compilation discs like this. Great for parties or long car trips.

Oh, how about Rare Earth? Get Ready, Born to Wander, I Just Want to Celebrate, Ma, Hey Big Brother... etc. What a choice!

Copper Penny: Sitting on a Poor Man's Throne. And their other big tune - name escapes me.

Or could this be a start of "soul classics" by white guys on DCC?

    ;)

Don''t forget Sugarloaf / Green Eyed Lady.

Another idea for a CD would be "Horn Bands" so it would include cuts from Earth, Wind and Fire; Ides of March; Blood, Sweat and Tears; Tower of Power; Average White Band; Bar-Kays; Sam & Dave; Chicago; etc.
