This is the 2nd time I've received a recommendation for this within the past couple of weeks. Thanks!

That album cover alone may give me no choice but to purchase it!

Great suggestion! And thanks for reminding me that I really need to pick up that X-Ray Spex on LP...

    I'd get this.
Why? because if you don't have this, you don't have a record collection.....

For some reason I played Johnny Rivers to death last night , I was playing the record he made at Sun Studios when my wife came home from work , she did get it was the artist from the few prompts I made . we saw Jimmy Webb in concert earlier this year and he spoke about Johnny Rivers for several minutes in pretty reverential terms .

Based on this, I 'll throw out two suggestions for you. I wouldn't call them obscure I guess. But, maybe off the beaten path a little.

The Wipers - Is This Real - 1979 Great alternative punk. Highly impressive song writing, catchy, the right amount of grit. Greg Sage's voice and guitar playing are phenomenal and unexpected.

Booker T and The M.G.s - Melting Pot - 1971 You know these guys. The backing band for many great classic soul tracks. And incredible on their own. This is mostly instrumental with some tasty backing vocals here and there. This will put a smile on your face.

By the way, another reason I started this thread is because for the last month or so the only records I've been listening to are whatever pops up when I hit the "random item" link on my Discogs collection. It's been a blast and a nice change of pace. I'm trying to let go of control over such things.

I just got this on vinyl for the 1st time last week - unfortunately, there were enough tics and pops on side 2 that I had to return it. Usual don't mind occasional tics - it's part of living with vinyl - but I just couldn't handle it on such a beautiful, sublime record. They didn't offer exchange. just my money back. Trying to decide whether to pull the trigger again and see if I can get a perfectly quiet copy.

David Bowie - Station to Station. Bowie as The Thin White Duke. Bowie immersed in Euro funk, Disco, Gospel. Eaten alive from the inside by cocaine. Consumed by personal demons, his mind populated by The Kabbalah, Albert Speer, Edward VIII, UFO sightings, German Expressionism and conspiracy theories. This probably doesn't sound like a lot of fun does it? But for my ears it is a profoundly human record. Essential and brilliant playing throughout by Dennis Davis, Carlos Alomar, George Murray, Roy Bittan and Earl Slick.

I saw them during this same timeframe (maybe it was '93) at a tiny outdoor amphitheater in Tempe AZ, and then again at every possible opportunity after that. What a fabulous band.

I appreciate your input. I may not have been 100% clear in my initial post, but I'm asking for recommendations from fellow music lovers. Any genre will do. I'll be making a conclusion based on the responses I receive in this thread. So what others say is actually imperative in my decision making process! :)

I would play this right now and normally I would bump whatever I was playing in favor of Jerry Lee but At this moment I am playing Johnny Cash 'I Walk the Line'
12 tracks of country genius from the mid sixties

You will probably hate it but you asked. So here is my answer.

Incantation - Upon The Throne Of Apocalypse

You can order the vinyl and get the digital download from their Bandcamp site. To make it easy, I provided the link. Enjoy :D
