Mary Chapin Carpenter's Come Darkness Come Light is a very different Christmas album, with almost nothing you'd expect to hear on a "standard" Christmas album. It contains a few originals, some covers, and some less-often-heard traditional songs. There's no "White Christmas" or "Silent Night" here. It's a refreshing, original Christmas album.

Though certainly not overlooked by Tull fans, Jethro Tull's Christmas Album is probably missed by many. It's one a handful of Christmas albums (including Fahey and Guaraldi) that I really like.

I don't know if you'd consider these as overlooked, yet they are favorites of mine under the Christmas Music genre, and not generally not considered super mainstream:

Mary Chapin Carpenter - Come Darkness, Come Light

    December - Moody Blues

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

I like to hear this whenever it pops up on my ipod's shuffle feature, what ever the time of year. TV Smith is often overlooked, alas.

A bunch more that should be on everyone's Christmas playlist:

"The Angel & The Little Blue Bell"-Brenda Lee - A heartwarming little tale.

"Driving Home For Christmas"-Chris Rea - A nice & easy going tune.

"The Greatest Gift Of All"-Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton - From their Christmas special & album. A beautiful duet!
Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers - The greatest gift of all

"I Believe In Santa Claus"-Mickey Rooney & Ron Marshall - From "The Year Without A Santa Claus". One of my favorites! Amazing how after Mickey Rooney sings in his raspy voive, Ron Marshall comes in with an awesome crystal clear voice. A song I think should be released as a single.
    I Believe In Santa Claus

"The Twelve Gifts Of Christmas"-Allan Sherman - A very entertaining alteration of the classic.

"Two-Step 'Round The Christmas Tree"-Suzy Bogguss - A great Country Christmas tune by Suzy! I Love it!

"Mary's Boy Child"-Harry Belefonte - This is a great story song that everyone should hear!

Covering 2 of these tunes as part of the Rock & Soul Christmas show I am doing in Princeton, which also includes most of the Spector album.

I really love J.D. McPherson's album Socks from last year. I played it like crazy last year and plan to do the same again.

All original songs with enjoyable, fun and unique lyrics and a great vintage sound. Tons of awesome rockabilly guitar solos on this record. It's a festive great time.

I also really dug the Mavericks' Christmas album from last year. Check out "Christmas Time is Coming Round Again."

There are so many great suggestions here. I've heard a lot of them, but there are a lot to explore. Thank you. These are exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.
